Scientists ejected from diabetes conference for criticizing trump attacks on scientific research

Those ousted included American Diabetes Association journal editor-in-chief Steven Kahn and former ADA president Desmond Schatz

Five leading scientists were ousted from the annual meeting of the American Diabetes Association (ADA) in New Orleans on Friday. Their crime: handing out copies of an editorial, published in the journal Diabetes Care on April 29, sharply criticizing the Trump administration’s ongoing attacks on scientific research.

Those ousted were Steven Kahn, professor of medicine at the University of Washington and editor-in-chief of Diabetes Care, who co-authored the published editorial; former ADA president Desmond Schatz of the University of Florida, Gainesville; Aaron Kelly, pediatrics processor at the University of Minnesota; Justin Ryder of Northwestern University; and Irl Hirsch, also of the University of Washington. The five were handing out reprints of the editorial outside a room where NIH director Jay Bhattacharya had been scheduled to speak. Bhattacharya cancelled and another NIH official spoke in his stead.

“They physically grabbed us, forced us out of the conference center, and now are telling us we can no longer attend this meeting,” Kelly told MedPage Today, which first reported the incident. “They’re taking our lanyards. It really has come to this in America. Censorship is real. America needs to stand up. Scientists, stand up. Physicians, stand up.”

More at the link. Every damn scientist there should have been standing with them.

7. Possible reasons.

1. Rich people think all the money in the world belongs to them.
They are done with sick people seeing doctors, getting healthcare.
Too much money down the drain.

2. MAGAs believe in survival of the fittest.
No treatment for sick people, no vaccines for kids.
Only the healthiest and luckiest will live.

3. Trump has systematically destroyed every single thing
that makes America great. Healthcare, education, science, military.
federal govt, etc etc. We are no longer world leaders in these fields.

And the people we love and respect. The Kennedys, Jackie's Rose Garden,
the Kennedy Center, etc.

Destroying our monuments, the White House, etc.

Who benefits and how, if the US is degraded significantly?
We are no longer world leaders in anything.

US sinks in power and prestige, who rises to power to become global superpowers?

16. Only 6% of scientists are Republicans.

That's similar to the percentage of African American women who identify as Republican.

https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2009/07/09/section-4-scientists-politics-and-religion/
Most scientists identify as Democrats (55%), while 32% identify as independents and just 6% say they are Republicans.

That's from a poll in 2009. I'm guessing that people who are more dedicated to TRUTH instead of power are even less likely to identify themselves as Republican today.

So the leadership of the American Diabetes Association called the event cops on them? The others in attendance should have walked out in protest.

If there is anyone in doubt of our authoritarian evil propagandist governance, now would be a good time to start paying attention.

#OnThisDay 1943:
Members of the #WhiteRose movement, a non-violent resistance group in the Third Reich, were arrested by the Gestapo. They distributed leaflets denouncing the regime's oppression and crimes, and called for non-violent resistance. Many of them were sentenced to death.

The group wrote, printed, and initially distributed their pamphlets in the greater Munich region. Later on, secret carriers brought copies to other cities, mostly in the southern parts of Germany.

Omarosa Manigault Newman stated: "Every critic, every detractor, will have to bow down to President Trump." She added, "It's everyone who's ever doubted Donald, who ever disagreed, who ever challenged him. It is the ultimate revenge to become the most powerful man in the universe."
