RELEASE: State Democrats Build Momentum for Midterms with More Record Candidate Recruitment

WASHINGTON — As November nears, candidate recruitment is continuing to surge across state legislative races in battleground, blue, and red territory as we prepare for our most ambitious midterm strategy ever. The DLCC has worked directly with caucuses across the country to fuel candidate recruitment through early infrastructure and staffing.
State Democrats are breaking recruitment records across the country:
- Minnesota: DFL candidates filed in every state legislative district for the first time ever, as Republicans hit a historic low by leaving 17 state House races uncontested. Democrats need to flip just one seat in the House to restore legislative control.
- Kansas: The largest slate of candidates in over 30 years has filed to run in the Kansas House as we aim to break the GOP supermajority. Candidates are running in 103 of 125 districts.
- New Hampshire: Democrats in the New Hampshire Senate have reached full candidate recruitment, and House Democrats have surpassed last cycle’s recruitment by dozens of candidates. Democrats are working to flip both chambers this November.
This builds on record recruitment announced earlier this year, with history made in states like Texas, Georgia, Indiana, South Carolina, and more. Filing periods are still open in a few DLCC target states, but we are surpassing recruitment targets earlier than ever this year and on track to challenge as many as 300 GOP-held target districts this November. The DLCC’s work is laying the foundation for a historic November as we prepare for the biggest gains at this ballot level in two decades.
