DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) President Donald Trump said Monday on social media that Iran had requested a meeting with U.S. counterparts, though one of Irans top negotiators said no further talks had been scheduled after attacks across the Persian Gulf over the weekend challenged negotiations to end the war.
The U.S. president has tried to preserve an increasingly fragile interim deal as hostilities have mounted in recent days in the Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the worlds oil had been shipped before war began.
Trump said the meeting with Iran would happen on Tuesday in Doha, Qatar. But Kazem Gharibabadi, a senior negotiator for Iran, denied any talks had been scheduled.

Lying is like breathing to him.

(135 posts)I think he honestly believes there's a meeting taking place and that's because he has memory issues, whether that be dementia, Alzheimer's, or something else. If we think back to 10 years ago, I don't recall him doing this. Yes he lied (a ton) but I don't remember him behaving in this manner at all where he constantly lied about meeting with world leaders or hammering out deals with them. Something happened between the end of 2020 and 2024. Something really broke inside him.
He's literally demented and we have Iran not only saying as much due to his behavior but saying they had to use mental health experts when they negotiated with Trump and his administration. What Republicans are doing with regards to them running their literal "protection racket" amounts to "elder abuse". It needs to be called out and become a mainstream talking point with how they're doing "elder abuse".
Trump is kaput.

(184,619 posts)@stephruhle.bsky.social breaks down the latest in the war with Iran, as both the U.S. and Iran share conflicting information about the state of negotiations. This comes after both countries spent recent days carrying out strikes after Iran fired on a ship in the Strait of Hormuz.
