because they're jumping straight to accusations of Communism and a complete takeover of corporations and the American way.
Fox New talking heads are going apoplectic. Now, if Democrats were smart, they would break it down for the slow learners. We support Social Security, food programs and health care as such. We even believe in Corporations paying their fair share. But No to a Corporate take over.

(20,059 posts)Americans of both parties have been conditioned to respond viscerally to accusations of Communism since the fifties. And judging from Republicans' reactions to Trump, Communists are way worse than pedophiles these days.

(14,685 posts)Americans want their government to provide things that are best provided collectively while leaving us free to accomplish that which we can best accomplish in the private sector to the private sector, with the private sector participants who benefit the most from public infrastructure and services contributing the most to maintaining the public sector, and with laws that protect us from discrimination or abuse by private sector players.
Universal healthcare, social security, public transportation, public education -- implementing these types of public enterprises is what a liberal democracy is all about. We demand of our government that which we believe, as a people, constitute the moral obligations we have as a people.
Making America a nation we can be proud of is all about building a government that protects our individual rights while providing the public infrastructure and services we choose to provide ourselves.
That's what it means to be a liberal democracy.
And a liberal democracy that collectively chooses to socialize certain segments does not make this a socialist county.
Democrats, and Democratic socialists, and some independents are all fighting for the fundamental principles of liberal democracy.
In the course of our history these fundamental principles are a constant and central to our identity as a nation.
It is the fascist corporatists that are seeking to destroy the character of this nation.
