The first round they killed off 10s of millions of their own people before subsidizing guerrilla wars and dictatorships that roiled other parts of the world, from overthrowing parts of the Russian Empire that had become free or or were working on it to annexing the Baltics before WWII started on the Eastern front (because they didn't let Russia free reign), to reclaiming half of Poland; from supporting Mao and North Korea to supporting dictatorships in Uganda and funding insurgencies in Angola and Congo and Zimbabwe to insurgencies and dictatorships in Nicaragua.

Putin's Russia is a dilettante compared to the union of socialist republics and their empire.
