I play What's My Line and other old black and white TV for my feral Russian Blue colony on my porch during their supper.
Their big papa loves What's My Line and You Bet You Life. The old Groucho game show. lol go figure?

I also play guitar, but, he really wants bluegrass. No idea what any of this means.
He and his lady gal, btw, both survived the Almeda fire together. Showed up at my house. After all these years, big papa finally touched me. It took me 3 years to convince him the heated beds that his kids were in felt good!
Patience and looking blinks.
Sorry went on way more than I should've.

I appreciate you!!🤣🥰🤗

I post for several reasons (included in the above)

1. Really serious, and actionable political news, as in meetups, rallies, and heavy-duty points such as "The Democratic Party needs to be "revolutionary" not passive. After all, there's this King George ....

I grew up in the Boston area.

2. Just fun. Spirits need a boost.

3. Graphics. Enjoy my amateur fakes and memes. I thank the internet for providing background images.

4. Techie stuff. I get almost all my material from HackerNews, hopefully understandable stuff. It's really important to know.

I think that's it. (Gets idea for next post)

Spare you the details, I had some work done at the well pump, and some anxious moments when the booster pump refused to start (black magic was invoked) and then home pressure was low until I flip-flopped a ball valve, which magically restored normal pressure.

When you buy a home, there's never a map of important stuff. I suspect that it's a tee valve, and that the flipping flushes some dirt or gold nuggets down another line. Metal detector didn't map out the pipes, because they're all plastic.

By the way:

Green Acres!

Long story short, I'm really far from everything, so I make a big shopping trip once a week.

"Places" of interest are at least 50 miles away, so photo trips involve the driving plus the hiking around plus the camera gear.

Daughter and Son-in-Law are a 3 hour drive away.

I do plan to relocate to the SF Bay area. I spent 30 years there and miss the ocean and restaurants and such.

There are some interesting things to do there.

Maybe if I can find an online gallery that keeps bots out?????
Those bots are damn clever.

To decorate my basement.
Also, very talented guy. He had advertised his photos site on DU. I bought and had framed. My dad's family was from Clyde, and I spent most my childhood with my Texas part of my family. Super good memories.
Anyway, the photo group here at DU are amazing talent! When I had time, I entered 1, of one of my iris that I particularly loved. Haven't had much time since.

Thanks for the chat. Much appreciated.

It's too competitive for the effort it takes, And I look at my photos as personal expression. My Dad was an artist and sold none of his paintings. He did commercial art for a living.

I also don't see photography as competitive. It's self expression! One imprints one's soul in a fine picture. Not a competitive sport. It's a private conversation.

See Joseph Conrad:

https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/The_Nigger_of_the_%22Narcissus%22/Preface

To arrest, for the space of a breath, the hands busy about the work of the earth, and compel men entranced by the sight of distant goals to glance for a moment at the surrounding vision of form and colour, of sunshine and shadows; to make them pause for a look, for a sigh, for a smile—such is the aim, difficult and evanescent, and reserved only for a very few to achieve. But sometimes, by the deserving and the fortunate, even that task is accomplished. And when it is accomplished—behold!—all the truth of life is there: a moment of vision, a sigh, a smile—and the return to an eternal rest.

All that said, I'd love to find a way to share photos with DU'ers. Copy and print. I'll add that to my priority list.

Was roommates with one of the founders of Burning Man. He was at the very first event on the beach, and has been involved with it ever since.

Maybe one of these years, while still able, I'll travel from my home in Chicagoland to that cultural phenomenon in the desert.

I have a national parks pass as a senior and a veteran, though climbing up Sentinel Dome or Taft Point with heavy cameras is a chore.

And forget about the Mist Trail. Maybe with my grown up "kids" instead.

I got great photos on the Pacific coast ( and lots of other places) Some from the Pacifica Pier, which was demolished in ocean storms.

Take pix TODAY, because "you never know"

47. The "Mist Trail" in Yosemite?
Thu Jul 2, 2026, 09:39 PM
Thursday

One of my first times backpacking was in 1986 hiking up that trail past Vernal and Nevada Falls. My visit there was too brief, on a monthlong trip between jobs.

I've spent much more time hiking in the Midwest and Southeast, with forays to Utah, the Rockies, and Northeast. Last October my wife and I with our two dogs vacationed for a week in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. I don't recall the name of this waterfall, but it was a nice spot.

Photography is seasonal, whatever flowers the deer don't eat get to live, and I am far from everything in terms of trips.

I REALLY need to spend more time with the piano.

And there's ALWAYS something needing fixing.

I've got some new window covers to put up and a kitchen drawer to repair. Wait till I find the idiot that thought long staples shot into the end of a flimsy board consists of "drawer construction". That just shatters the board. eventually.
