General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI am at the emergency vet with my cat
A while ago, a dog was brought in on a stretcher followed by attendants and his parents. They all ran down the hall and I heard the man angrily yell something about "MY DOG!!!!" and I immediately thought bullets were going to start flying. When they came out to the reception desk a few minutes ago I looked to see if I could tell if he was packing or not.
I put this in General Discussion because I feel it is an issue and a current event. This is what we've come to: my first thought was the fear that was some angry person was going to shoot up the place. What a way to live. Happy 4th indeed.

(23,049 posts)was there any reason besides the man was angry that you thought he would start shooting? Was he angry at the staff?

but these days, you never know what's going to set someone off. People get shot for any number of stupid reasons: over a parking spot; turning into the wrong driveway: looking at someone the wrong way, etc.

(15,306 posts)At the emergency vet around 9:30 pm when I heard angry voices from a back room. He came out to waiting room and was threatening the clerk at the front desk. He stormed out and I was watching the door and trying to figure out what I would do if he came in with a gun. I was right next to the rest room door and sitting next to an older woman with her cat. I was thinking I would grab her and go into the restroom until the cops showed up. He was probably upset that the bill was more than he could afford and they wont treat until you pay upfront.
I almost started crying when they told me I had to come up with over 3000 for them to unblock his urinary tract or they could just put him down if I decided not to pay. I did not have the money. They handed me a form for Wells Fargo credit application. Instead I called my youngest son. Dan said to have them call and he would put it on his AmEx card and told me not to worry about it because he could afford it and he loves our Turbo kitty too. I cried all the way home from exhaustion and relief. I dont think they would have extended the credit and my cat was in terrible pain.
I think that man didnt have the money or anyone he could ask.
It was really a horrible night but my kitty is still here and I am so grateful.

in the waiting room. I guess this really wasn't the emergency I thought it was.
I can just imagine the bill.....I wish I could deduct all the time I've wasted sitting here.

(3,587 posts)They consider Holly to be "stable" so hopefully no real emergencies will come in and they'll be able to see her before midnight.
At least we're in the exam room. I guess that's progress.
