This is the quoted text that accompanied the since deleted image:
Look at the port in his hand in the YMCA song video

Example for illustration only.

The original Bluesky post suggesting that the image may reveal the presence of a medical device has been deleted. Apparently the person who posed the original question had a change of heart.

(305 posts)To me it looks like a wristwatch peeking out. But it seems Donnie disappears for a few days around the first of the month, then emerges with bruised hands. 4th of July may have interfered with his monthly monkey gland infusion schedule.

(2,220 posts)The video does seem to show a consistent bright spot on the back of his hand. Could be makeup. It seems to move with his hand in a way that wouldn't be just a reflection.

(305 posts)I know he wears a watch and he is right handed. The right handed watch wearing men I have known mostly wear the watch on the right hand.
Ive had IVs in the hand a couple times. Im right handed and the doc said I was unusual in that I wanted the IV in my right hand. Easier to pick than to fret with a needle in your hand.

(78,375 posts)Just expand the image. You can see the catheter port.

(305 posts)But I cant tell what it is. Going full screen with the vid destroys the resolution, with the low light the resolution is not very good anyway. Your tech and eyes are probably better than mine.

(115,362 posts)and despite the likelihood that he is getting some iv infusions via the dorsal veins of the hands via butterfly or small catheter--leaving one in while someone like him while moving around would be a pretty unlikely thing to do. If it had reached the point where the need for iv injections/infusions was that constant and his dorsal hand veins were becoming that fragile and /susceptible to extravasation/infiltration and bruising, the appropriate step would be a continuous indwelling catheter--usually tunneled ports--that can be placed in the upper arm (peripherally inserted central catheter) PICC line, or central venous catheter (CVP) in the upper chest.
So, I doubt this is a continuous indwelling catheter-- and if they are doing this while allowing him to bang it about, I seriously think they need to reconsider a more protected and semi-permanent method that would be less prone to tissue damage and infection.
But, yeah. With the rain drops and glass, it is hard to be sure the image is not just artifact.

Although this has been an ongoing issue -- Trump should have saved some of those gauze pads he used on his ear 🦻

(38,963 posts)Finally got a clear image of his right hand at 33:39, a view from the back, and 38:07 lifting his hand for a fist bump (CSPAN recording). No IV port. So unless you are suggesting that medical folks arrived and inserted it right after he talked before the fireworks, it is just a reflection of light off his hand.
This micro-investigation of shadows and reflections in public images really isn't helpful (shadows imagined to wetting his pants; coat tails imagined to a towel and now light reflections on his hand. Does anyone seriously think that Trump would allow himself to be photographed in public in urine soaked clothing, sitting on a towel to protect a couch, or with an IV port in his hand?
Suggesting that he would give a major speech with an IV port in his hand is beyond reality, and suggesting that it was inserted between his speech and the fireworks is not far behind.
I did, however, discover something interesting while trying to verify that he didn't have anything in his hand during the speech. I expected to have lots of opportunities of accordion hands to examine the back of his hands. I fast forwarded through his speech (no sound, of course) and until the last 5 minutes of his 38+ minute speech, his right hand never let go of its death grip on the podium - and if his left hand did it was only very briefly - although he repositioned the left a few times. All of the gestures were brief and much more subdued than usual. Since he usually talks with his hands, that was curious - perhaps he got tired of everyone mimicking his accordion hands.

(35,735 posts)The type of question that I posed is known as an alternative choice, yes/no question.
Based on the broad word count difference in our posts, it's very clear who is doing a "micro-investigation."
But thanks for weighing in.
Ms. Toad
(38,963 posts)And I'm not micro-investigating. I'm fact checking the micro-investigation of images which purport to show something we want to believe (confirmation bias), but which is highly improbable - as I typically do when someone posts stuff like this.
Truth matters, and we shouldn't be spreading crap like this unless we have fact-checked it and found it to be at least likely to be true.

(35,735 posts)My question is a request for a snap judgment and not an in-depth analysis. I did not make any judgment call as to my personal belief.
The original Bluesky poster appears to have had second thoughts as their original suggestion, which I questioned here, was deleted.
It now shows up as "post not found" in the thread. I edited my OP to indicate that change.
So, it appears that you both may agree on the topic.
Thanks again for joining in the discussion.

Yes.

(35,735 posts)Fluids for rehydration can be administered through a vein in the hand aka peripheral IVs.
A PICC line aka a Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter can be done in the arm or the chest.
Typically they are used for longer term treatments like dialysis and chemo therapy.
