ICE arrests 10,000 in 5 days, a sharp late-June surge in Trump's deportation push

WASHINGTON (AP) Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 10,000 people over a five-day period at the end of June, marking a major push by the agency tasked with carrying out the Trump administration's mass deportations agenda.
The arrest numbers, obtained from a person familiar with the information who spoke anonymously to discuss data that has not been publicly released, comes after the agency shifted its approach from high-profile arrest sweeps in major American cities to quieter ways to reach President Donald Trump's deportation goals.
The figures indicate that while the administration is no longer cracking down on individual cities, the arrests continue and are surging.
The total number of arrests during the five-day period starting Friday and ending Tuesday translates into roughly 2,000 arrests per day. It was not clear where the arrests had taken place.

(1,987 posts)Didnt come through an immigration checkpoint? If youre undocumented its exactly that, they dont have your face. Otherwise all crimes could be solved in a minute but they dont have everyone full details in the country.
Undocumented workers tend to be easier to target because of their scope of employment etc.

(4,714 posts)Just investigate any hit not on file in areas where there are suspected undocumented persons.

(1,987 posts)Law enforcement is likely putting into targeting individuals unless they are murderers rapist etc( in which case good).
I saw a report last night that said 2 million undocumented in Texas alone. Its 1 in 20.
They are just targeting business or areas where large groups are likely. Plus all traffic stops etc with undocumented are now called in and arrested. They arent tracking individuals through facial recognition systems across the state like jason borne. Most of those systems are private anyway.

(4,250 posts)We already know they're showing up at people's immigration and other court hearings and apprehending and deporting them. They are obviously targeting individuals. The leap from showing up at their court hearings to getting information from the vast surveillance system in this country to find any of the same people in the large tranche of 'people working their way through the system' is not a large one, at all. And we know many of those 'private' systems are sharing info with authorities (Flock for example), it's been in the news plenty.
So, I think you are underestimating the ICE goons willingness to target individuals. And they don't have to be undocumented, or people with serious criminal records. A parking ticket or pot possession beef in 1992 on someone with a green card or permanent residency (or even a naturalized person in some cases) is plenty
Now, is it a full-blown 'Enemy of the State' manhunt out of some central control center, like in that movie? Probably not, I'll grant you that. More like they give descriptions and names to the surveillance companies and say 'ping us if any of these people show up on your trackers'.

Soon, Google will begin routine storage and analysis of the picture files of their users, including photos of faces.
That horse left the barn long long ago.
It's not unexpected due to quotas and payment by headcount that there are people being swept up in these kidnappings who are here legally, and ICE/CPB just doesn't care. Because they are getting paid.
Their leader, DJ, has already proven that if someone breaks the law in his name, he will probably pardon them.
So, where's the incentive to follow the law?
