Im fucking sick of this shit. I have friends and family left in Israel who volunteer as protectors. The Israeli government is out of control and the support for this fascist rule by thugs is something I will never condone.
Israeli settlers attacked Palestinians and Israeli human rights activists in a series of incidents across the West Bank over the weekend, leaving over 20 wounded, according to Palestinian reports.
On Friday morning, masked Israeli settlers attacked Palestinians and Israeli activists in farmlands near the West Bank village of Abu Falah, throwing stones and spraying tear gas. According to local reports, six people including one Palestinian and five activists were wounded. Witnesses said the Israeli settlers blocked Red Crescent teams from reaching the wounded for about an hour.

And in other news reported in another story in Haaretz
The head of the village's council and owner of the restaurant, Yaqub Owais, told the Palestinian news agency WAFA that settlers broke into the restaurant, smashed its doors and stole money before setting fire to the building, while the IDF did not intervene.
He estimates that the damage is around 1 million shekels ($330,000).
And in another story in Haaretz
Last month, Haaretz reported that, despite objections from military officials, Israeli settlers diverted water used by Palestinian farmers, seized an archaeological site in the Jordan Valley and turned an ancient pool near the settlement of Petza'el into an informal tourist attraction with the backing of government officials.
The settlers cleaned and renovated the site, likely redirecting water from infrastructure serving the nearby Palestinian village of Fasayil to refill the pool. The work was carried out without authorization from the Civil Administration official responsible for archaeological sites in the West Bank.
Earlier this year, Haaretz found that after settlers displaced about 120 Bedouin families from the West Bank community of Ras Ein al-Auja, a nearby nature reserve was transformed into a popular tourist destination.

(7 posts)The problem, I guess, is that this word doesn't have as negative a connotation as it should.

(4,709 posts)Strangest description of an apartheid state I have seen.
Oh but, but...Palestinians in Israel are full citizens, have the right to vote and some of them are even in the Knesset and one of them is even a Supreme Court Justice!! It's not an apartheid state!!
The talking points never address the apartheid accusation for the West Bank, do they?
If this is not apartheid I don't know what is.

(6,892 posts)rights does not include the issue of nationalism and that much of the inequality is that laws, resources, money etc are distributed according to nationalism and only Jewish Israelis are deemed nationals. The apartheid is not just in the West Bank. It is how Israel is set up. Ive tried to explain about nationals only a term for Jews but it falls on the usual deaf ears.

Without equality there is no democracy, only apartheid.

(28,308 posts)who differ from them, or whom they regard as being too secular or liberal. Anyone who thinks they're going to stop with "only" Palestinians has their heads up their a$$es. I would go so far as to suggest that these types will ultimately prove to be Israel's greatest threat.
The costs of not stopping them now will ultimately be catastrophic, IMO, even if you care absolutely nothing about human rights for Palestinians.

(650 posts)We really need to stop using that term. It's purposefully, grossly misleading and we need to stop contributing to the gaslighting that it promotes.

(4,709 posts)Ironically, some people get offended when a charge is made that Israel is a "settler-colonial project".
And guess what? These people act exactly like the settlers snd colonizers of imperial days or the Wild West. In this case, the Wild West Bank.
But I agree, the word is way too tame, on purpose, just as it was in the old days.
Violent supremacist squatters. Shorten it to just Supremacists?

(6,892 posts)1/ Weâre tired of mourning quietly. There is nothing inevitable about more than 150 Palestinian citizens being murdered in a few months. There is nothing inevitable about entire towns living under the shadow of organized crime while the Minister of Police boasts about security.

2/ The Israeli government chose to leave us without protection while organized crime spread, while murder became routine, and while our lives were treated as disposable.

3/ Every killer who walks free, every investigation that disappears, every family left without justice is another reminder that this abandonment is political, itâs deliberate, and weâre the ones paying for it with our lives.
