Article is from 2012 at the DAILY KOS , but its very much still applicable. Describes in a common sense way the ways in which we all have and are benefiting from socialism. emphasis on common sense, not hyperbolic at all. Cannot recommend this article enough.

(12,936 posts)I don't see anybody who gets socialism benefits in America sending it back. Does your Republican auntie send her Social Security check back with a note saying: "I DON'T ACCEPT SOCIALISM!"? Of course she does not.
Do Republican Congressmembers refuse the socialism-provided healthcare that US taxpayers fund for them while they continuously try to cut or eliminate ours - and insist that single-payer or nationalized healthcare is bad even though they are using it themselves along with our military and VA? Of course, they do not.
Do people who despise social-democratic institutions and benefits refuse to use public roads, fire departments, police, and libraries? NOPE.
How many MAGA/Republican voters on Medicare refuse their Medicare coverage because they dont like socialism? Yeah. ZERO.
Democratic socialism (or social Democracy, if youd rather) works.
Thats why the Christofascist, white nationalist, authoritarian regime that is now the Republican Party (and before that the old Republican Party) despises it.
They dont like anything that works for the common good. Have you noticed? They only like what gives them more power over the rest of us and what enriches the billionaires. Thats it.
Talk about parasites. They nurse on the public teat they proclaim to hate, all while working desperately to shred the thin safety net that helps the most desperate among us - and all to empower themselves and enrich the already wealthy.
What a vile bunch of pretentious hypocrites, those Republicans.
