Graham Platner, the Democratic Senate nominee from Maine, said he was taking time to reflect on his political path forward after a report that a woman had accused him of sexual assault, which he denied, the New York Times reports.

If I'm reading it correctly, the Maine Democratic Party would choose the replacement. If state law allows a replacement, the party's state committee (or the committee designated under Maine election law) fills the vacancy by nomination rather than holding another primary.
