An alternative for Graham Platner?

I'm a Mainer. In fact, I live in the same town as David Costello, and never received campaign information from or about him. I had to search for it. When I read his bio, I was impressed. He's someone I would have supported - if I'd known about him. Now that I do, I would happily campaign and vote for him if given the opportunity.

I decided to elaborate on a new thread to discuss Costello as a potential candidate.

To your question about Shenna Bellows, I think she would make an excellent Senator. She has the experience in government to help her find her way at the Federal level and a resume that supports her beliefs and positions on issues. She shows the gumption that will be needed to survive in the noxious environment that is currently in DC.

What are your thoughts?

Costello, Bellows and Jackson all seem perfectly fine. I'd personally even be ok with Golden if he jumped in.

16. I agree about Costello, Bellows and Jackson. To get rid of Collins I'd vote for Golden, though I rather see a "true" Dem

From wikipedia where there is much more -

In 2025, Golden was one of the only Democrats in Congress to openly support President Donald Trump's tariff policy. He criticized his party's perceived shift toward defending free trade deals and the stock market and "coming out strongly" against Trump's tariffs, advocating instead for a populist approach of "progressive conservatism". Golden expressed concern over Trump backing down from his tariff policy, telling Axios, "My biggest worry is that they're going to do this and lose faith and political will and back away." He opposed Democratic Representative Gregory Meeks' measure in the house to "kill Trump's tariffs".[40]

In January 2025, Golden introduced legislation that would put a universal 10% tariff on all imports into the U.S. His stance put him at odds with House Democrats. Golden also dismissed the 2025 stock market crash that followed President Trump's tariffs saying, "The vast majority of Americans have no stocks."[40]

Golden was the only Democrat to vote against the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, a bill that aimed to expand background checks for gun purchases. He was also one of two Democrats, along with Ron Kind of Wisconsin, to vote against the Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2021, a bill that sought to close the Charleston loophole. Both bills passed the House in March 2021.[63]

Golden was the only Democrat to have voted for the Republican stopgap spending bill to avert a government shutdown, voting against the instructions of House Democratic leadership.

In 2021, Golden was the sole House Democrat to oppose the Farm Workforce Modernization Act, supported by 30 Republicans, which would have allowed one million undocumented farm workers to apply for legal residency status.

On April 10, 2025, Golden was one of only four Democrats who joined all of the Republicans in the House in voting in favor of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, commonly known as the SAVE Act. The bill places strict requirements to prove American citizenship in order to vote in federal elections.

Candidates I voted for as choices after Mills.

I would still prefer Mills but would accept Costello or Bellows.

So maybe she will be nominated if Platner pulls out of the race... I just dont think she'll beat Collins.

I visited Maine for 2 weeks last year for the first time. I found it to be pretty awesome, but I’m not a winter guy so I suspect I could never be a real Mainer. Anyway best of luck with all this.

I'm concerned if she "re-ups" she won't win and we'll end up with Collins. Mills is too old and has her own skeletons (who doesn't?) that will be dredged up and be used against her. Collins vs Mills - what an image! Personally, I would most likely vote for the devil to rid us of Collins.

It's going to be interesting!

Enjoy the lovely break in the heat and humidity.

Re-up, Mills was on the ballot and ranked 2nd after the tattoo guy. It would seem that she would become the likely candidate and I think she can and would, should she become the candidate, beat collins. I think she's the only one who can.

She was the assumed choice before tattoo guy showed up.
