(1,620 posts)...and it's long settle law that a passenger has no obligation to answer questions during a traffic stop. Which likely means nothing since this Court has no regard for precedent, and this law was only passed to get a case in front of Jim Crow John and His Antebellum Five.

(20,095 posts)it's at best 50/50 that they'll go with it to placate Republicans.
At worst they will come up with some torutured reading of the Constitution that totally allows it.
I have no faith whatsoever in that court. None.

(132,108 posts)That info is already on the drivers' license that you'd show the cop, but there's no reason for passengers to have to provide it. Unless, of course, those passengers are brown or black and might be immigrants.

(454 posts)Isn't all of that information on your driver's license already? EVERY state I've lived in or been to has that info on their licenses.

(4,992 posts)I was a passenger in a car that hit a deer. The officer did all of the usual conversation with the driver and after that walked around the car and requested to see my drivers license. I responded that I didnt mean to be rude but I didnt know I needed a license to be a passenger in a car. He gave a BS excuse that I could claim to be injured later and it needed to be on record. They have been doing this for years. Illegally no doubt. Im sure my white privilege kept me from being hauled out of the car! My heart goes out to those targeted by these officers.

(6,548 posts)Interesting for the passenger though. It's a second degree misdemeanor if you refuse. And, of course, becomes part of your permanent record--which means it will show up on a background check.
For the passenger, unless they are being accused of something related to the moving violation, like not wearing a seat belt, it seems to be a due process violation. Although I'm sure Alito and Thomas will be all for it.
