We WILL end the radical right insanity in America!!

Trump is the last gasp, wreaking destruction upon the remnants of the functional liberal democracy that emerged as we actually made progress on the road to a more perfect union.

From the fall of Jim Crowe in the 50's, to the aspirations of a political party that no longer exists, but whose aspirations were expressed in the 1956 Republican platform.

On its Centennial, the Republican Party again calls to the minds of all Americans the great truth first spoken by Abraham Lincoln: "The legitimate object of Government is to do for a community of people whatever they need to have done but cannot do at all, or cannot so well do, for themselves in their separate and individual capacities. But in all that people can individually do as well for themselves, Government ought not to interfere."
...
We shall ever build anew, that our children and their children, without distinction because of race, creed or color, may know the blessings of our free land.

And on to meaningful progress on civil rights for African Americans in the 60's, and then meaningful progress for women's rights in the 1970's.

Followed by backlash in the form of a forty-five year project by the radical right fascist corporatists to turn back all that progress and transfer more than 50 trillion from the many to the few, while making it nearly impossible for ordinary people, disabled people, or people born in poverty to access the American dream, however hard they worked.

Trump didn't co-opt the Republican Party. The Republican Party has been advancing its racist, immoral, soulless project to destroy the powerhouse of progress that a functional liberal democracy represents for more than 40 years. And Trump is merely the culmination.

And they have gone too far.

And that is their undoing.

This is not the victory of fascist corporatism.

OUR backlash will be SOOOO much more powerful over the next few decades than the backlash of the soulless, immoral, racists ever has been.

The Republicans and Democrats may think they are vying for power, but where the power lies right now is with the 60 to 70 percent that have f-ing had it with the fascist corporatist shit.

Making America a nation we can be proud of is all about building a government that protects our individual rights while providing the public infrastructure and services we choose to provide ourselves.

In the course of our history these fundamental principles are a constant and central to our identity as a nation -- and as a people. And it is with the people that the power resides now.

And people are getting clearer about what they want.

And those wants are quickly becoming demands.

Will we turn things around in one election? No way. The only thing I am sure of is that it will be a hell of a lot less than 40 years.

The disease is capitalism.

If he dies tomorrow, we will still be fighting the same necessary struggle. Faces will change, but the classes won't.

Then optimism isn't warranted.

We shall know in just under four months.

And in the process, we will be putting some things that aren't even "on the table" in place that could be pretty great.

Never underestimate the creativity of pissed off people.

The only thing certain about the future is that NO ONE can know the future.

And in that I find hope.

And hope is the life's blood of resistance.

Hope inspires action, action inspires hope. It is a feedback loop that we need to be conscious of, and nurture, to keep it going.
