I've been preaching this for some time. I actually wish we could have a '28 candidate who looked like Jason Statham. Yes, I think its absolutely ridiculous that I feel that way, but WINNING is all that matters at this point. We simply MUST get more men back to the Party. And candidates like these are a move in that direction.

ETA: I read the article. The article references Johnny Garcia. I am familiar with the race. Johnny Garcia ran against John Lira and Maureen Galindo in the primary. Maureen was that flaky sex therapist, anti-sematism candidate, who received national attention.

I'm surprised John Lira didn't do that in the primary, but it is what it is. It is a fairly conservative district. I think Johnny Garcia has a better chance than John Lira. John Lira's a great guy, but not a very good campaigner. I don't think there was any effort to put a "manly man" in there. Johnny Garcia worked for the sheriff's dept. Our sheriff is popular here. A good chunk of this new district was formally Henry Cuellar's district. It's red leaning.

Coming across as a "manly man" is just irritating.

And it helps to spell out what being a "manly man" would entail. A candidate who isn't polite? A candidate who hunts animals for fun? One with a military background? One who is boisterous, loud?

From my experience, "manly men" don't often have stellar histories, as Platner has shown.

So far from what I have seen of him, James Talarico has come across as gentle and able to express himself well. And Jon Ossoff also is able to resonate with voters. Others here who know more about them may later disabuse me of my positive notions of these two candidates, but as of right now they seem to be the kind of candidates we can use.
