SAN JOSE A San Jose State University graduate student has been federally charged with posting a campus bomb threat in a restroom last fall that included swastikas as well as slurs and insults against Muslims, Asians and liberal causes, and authorities suspect he may be behind other instances that prompted mass panic and emptied classrooms.
Ziheng Tony Fang, 30, of San Jose, is being held in federal detention after being charged last Thursday with one count of false information and hoaxes related to a Nov. 5, 2025 discovery of a sheet of paper, contained in a plastic sleeve, posted on the wall of a mens restroom in MacQuarrie Hall. The paper was titled !Warning! and threatened a mass bomb the following week, all in block letters.
The central threat on the notebook-sized white sheet was flanked by crudely drawn swastikas, and included the messaging, This is a White nation. It further called for deadly violence against Muslims and Chinese people, using a slur for the latter group.

How does someone get away with 14-21 instances like this over an 18 month period and not get caught until now?

(11,396 posts)It's extremely diverse - and I love that about it. I'm the only white guy in my social group. It's a lot of fun.
But minority on minority bigotry is an entire thing here. In AAPI subgroups, Japanese, Koreans, Vietnamese, Filipinos, etc. do not necessarily get along, and Chinese - particularly students - have their own homegrown thoughts about . . . well, every other AAPI group. South Asian bigotry in tech is a whole situation down in Silicon Valley.
One time I was chilling with a Black friend of a friend who made a face and comment at me because, "Why do you want to be around those Mexicans?"
Appearance is truly skin deep. Being a flawed human goes straight to the mitochondria.

(26,288 posts)I know SJSU very well. In fact, my first reaction was a white supremacist at San Jose State? So I read further and saw that he was Asian. Yes, I've experienced some of what you related. Sometimes it seems like since I'm white and in the minority, other groups feel free to confide in me about their difficulty with certain groups. Maybe they assume I'll agree? I usually go into my teacher mode and smooth things over by saying something like we're all people and we need to learn to live together.

(11,396 posts)Especially because I'm from the Midwest, where apparently I just grew up around Klan rallies or something, so obviously I will agree with whatever is being said about a racial group.
It's kind of funny and sad.
I'm the Switzerland in my group. I like everyone and get told everything. It's no fun when there's friction like that between people.
But I am 100% seated for the shit talking. Because, while I like everyone, I also like everyone else's mess.

Come to think of it that movie is timely for numerous reasons. They should show it in the student union. (Do universities still show movies in the student union? Never mind.)

This seems very curious if he is indeed Chinese.
