Nasa drops plan to land first woman and first person of color on the moon
Source: Guardian
Nasa has dropped its longstanding public commitment to land the first woman and person of color on the moon, in response to Donald Trumps directives to eliminate diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) practices at federal agencies.
The promise was a central plank of the space agencys Artemis program, which is scheduled to return humans to the lunar surface in 2027 for the first time since the final Apollo mission in December 1972.
The Artemis landing page of Nasas website previously included the words: Nasa will land the first woman, first person of color, and first international partner astronaut on the Moon using innovative technologies to explore more of the lunar surface than ever before.
The version of the page live on the website on Friday, however, appears with the phrase removed.

(777 posts)Just start naming groups, and by the time you're done naming everyone Republicans hate, it's like 80% of the American people even with overlap.
There's just no redeeming Nazis. They're the flushing toilet laughing back at you.

This nation cannot endure the extreme prejudice of these people much longer, and remain a democracy. All hatred, and no hope.

(485 posts)And I'll tell you, there are a lot of people at the Space Center that would agree with this. I'm actually looking forward to this. Many of the people that work out there, on the Artemis program, are going to be so surprised when Muskrat cancels that program to feather his own nest. Gotta love schadenfreude.

(21 posts)Obama did the responsible thing and reset the moon return on a sustainable course as a development program. Is it the usual perverse course of America's politics that Democrats separate campaigning from governance? How I do wish that DEMS had campaigned in 2007-2008 on a return to the moon and lion tamed our aerospace industry to focus on that goal to occur by or before 2017! Instead Trump/ Musk/Vance get to kill NASA 60s- 90s and replace it with Bond Villain Space X and collect yet another easy win!
