GOP blames tariffs, economic uncertainty for low Trump approval rating

Republicans on Capitol Hill are laying the blame for the recent dip in President Trumps approval ratings at the feet of economic and tariff uncertainty as his administration hits the 100-day mark.
Tuesday marks the 100th day of the Trump administration 2.0, capping off a topsy-turvy stretch marked by a litany of executive orders, unpredictable tariff policy, a roller coaster on Wall Street and controversial immigration-related efforts.
The whirlwind of a stretch is translating to lagging poll numbers. A Washington Post/ABC News/Ipsos poll released on Sunday found that Trumps approval rating among adult Americans dropped by six points over the past two months, from 45 percent in February to 39 percent in March.
The numbers are similar in a survey by The New York Times/Siena College. Forty-two percent of voters nationwide approve of the job Trump is doing. Gop lawmakers are chalking the numbers up to the recent economic tumult.

(12,578 posts)Those in Congress have the power to take the levying of tariffs away from Trump. If they fail to do that, democrats need to hit them hard on their failures in 2026.

In reality, it is the GQP coupled with insane crudity, something in the years of my life that Democrats never portrayed.
Go figure.

(160 posts)Republicans in congress truly do not have any understanding about what is going on in the outside world and how much pain their dysfunction is poised to bring to the American people. They seem to believe the insanity is normal while it is the rest of the world that doesn't understand--but will eventually.
But the problem is this: While Americans seem to be waking up to the fact that the asylum is now being run by the inmates, they do not see Democrats as the sane people that should be in charge--but just another set of inmates....

(11,569 posts)Between the tariffs and the loss of immigrant farmworkers, there is some serious economic pain coming for all of us, plus millions of Americans will find out what all those fired federal workers were doing. If King Dunning-Kruger doesn't succeed in destroying free elections, the MAGA party will be burned to the ground in '26! It's even possible that Republicans will be scared enough to vote for impeachment to try to save the party in '28.

I don't read articles by The Hill since they conspired numerous times with GOP governments to foist lies on the American people.
