Trump Says He Could Free Abrego Garcia From El Salvador, but Won't

Source: NY Times

Trump’s comments undermined previous statements by his top aides and were a blunt sign of his administration’s intention to double down and defy the courts. President Trump, whose administration has insisted it could not bring Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia back from El Salvador to the United States, said he does have the ability to help return the wrongly deported Maryland man, but is not willing to do so because he believes he is a gang member.

“You could get him back, there’s a phone on this desk,” said Terry Moran, an ABC News correspondent, noting a Supreme Court order to “facilitate” the release of Mr. Abrego Garcia.

“I could,” Mr. Trump replied.

“And if he were the gentleman that you say he is, I would do that,” Mr. Trump said. “But he is not.” Mr. Trump added that government lawyers do not want to help bring Mr. Abrego Garcia back to the United States.

DEFEND DEMOCRACY OR GET OUT. NOW.

One might also imitate a "It's time for you to leave the country" letter that some citizens have been receiving.

making claims in court that the US is unable to get him back. Lawyers knowingly filing false claims in court are risking discipline up to and including a loss of their license. Will a court have the guts to go to the mat over this behavior? They should but most likely will not and will just offer a scolding and a requirement to refile any motions etc.

We will see what the attack on the judiciary in Wisconsin brings. If the judges don't realize the moment they're in and get tough there will be more staged dramas, arrests of judges, refusal to comply with court orders etc.

Until/unless we get a congress willing to investigate/impeach/convict/remove for flagrant abuses of power and failure to uphold his oath of office, Trump is effectively a king, untouchable for anything he does in his capacity as president.
