Former Vice President Harris accused President Trump of being responsible for the "greatest man-made economic crisis in modern presidential history" during a Wednesday night speech in San Francisco, California.

Why it matters: The 2024 Democratic presidential candidate used one of her first major speeches since losing the election to Trump, but she's chosen the week he marks 100 days of his second presidency to criticize his handling of the economy, immigration and other key policy areas.

Harris has kept a mostly low profile since the election and speculation is mounting that she could run for governor in California in 2026.

What they're saying: During her speech at the 20th anniversary gala for Emerge America, a political non-profit that has a mission to increase the number of Democratic women leaders, Harris said the "president's reckless tariffs have raised the cost of everyday essentials, devastating retirement accounts."

China is a crucial provider of goods at an affordable rate.

Central American immigrants are eager to be affordable labor for our farmers, food services, construction, and home care in exchange for a chance to live here. Even police and military service persons. We should respect and appreciate their service rather than turn our nose up at it, because the consequence is collapse of lifestyle and economy.
