Kenyatta elected as a DNC vice chair

Pennsylvania state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta was elected as a vice chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) Saturday, after the party revoked an earlier election that elevated David Hogg to one of the vice chairs.
Kenyatta, who was also elected in that first election, secured the position again after receiving 374.5 votes, or 99 percent of voting members in the re-vote. Hogg did not run this time around, and the party will select among three female candidates on Tuesday for a second vacant vice chair role.
Malcolm Kenyatta has been a strong and effective leader as DNC Vice Chair. He has been committed to this work since day one, and I look forward to continuing this fight with him, said DNC Chair Ken Martin.
DNC Vice Chair David Hogg announced Wednesday that he would not be running for reelection for his spot. His decision came after DNC members voted 294 to 99 to redo the vice chair election of Hogg and Kenyatta.

This is the guy who can bring the fascist maga Pubs to heel like the rabid savage filth they are.
I saw the comments on our local FB page from the radical maga Repubs in the township that surrounds us yesterday. They are bloodthirsty evil beings - and they need to be brought to heel.
While everyone else was protesting, we (the council) took names, wrote the ordinance, established an emergency online meeting date, and are going to have two police officers, proof of residency in the Borough and a do not admit list for our next regular meeting.
1. I've been "chastised" for writing "bring them to heel" at DU So now I'm going to write it as much as I can because I had the guts to run for office, win, and . . . I don't take orders from keyboard warriors.
2. Collectively we've been receiving anywhere from 12-20 threats and nasty grams since the 2024 election.
3. Yesterday, no one received less than than 7.
4. We all agree (the entirely blue dot council in a sea of red in NJ) that Ken Martin is a DIRECT THREAT to the maga Repub scum. He knows how to DOMINATE.
5. We are in a blue trifecta state. That action yesterday proved what we've been saying - it's them or us.
Your Democratic Party Electeds from the dog catcher to the former Presidents and Vice Presidents need your support. Those murders and attempted murders are the moment the civil war went from cold to hot.
If you aren't with us, at least have the decency to not denigrate us.

(92,414 posts)By far the best new young voice for the DNC. I expect great things from him as Vice Chair.
Hogg was the wrong fit and franky didn't seem to understand that the DNC works to elect Democrats and not primary them.

(56,059 posts)has to do with the absence of a female candidate, only they turn around and replace him with a man. Now people are applauding opposition to democracy in favor of a permanent House of Lords in order to maintain the status quo at all costs. Should I really have to remind people that the status quo is a party that got thrashed in 2024 and has historically low approval ratings? So much for the party undergoing self-reflection and bringing about change to adopt a winning strategy.

(154,538 posts)I think there was an issue about having the 2 "vice-chair" positions and attempting to recognize all constituencies including women but with this caveat -
The original vote was done as a "single" vote that apparently disadvantaged the female candidates and procedurally, they should have had at least 2 votes.
The 2nd vice-chair vote is supposed to happen from today through to Tuesday this coming week (last sentence in the linked OP article) -

(5,881 posts)* and a disingenuous claim among certain segments who place great importance in denigrating the Democratic party and its procedures/rules.
To the best of my knowledge, Hogg could have run again, right? Didn't he choose to NOT run this time? Maybe he realized that his chances were much more slim than previously and decided to avoid the embarrassment of defeat.
Although he and his supporters are opposed (supposedly) to the "status-quo," the fact that Kenyatta is a gay man should be greeted with open arms and great fanfare from them, no? Personally, it seems to me that Hogg's presence did nothing with regard to diversity.
Based on earlier and ongoing comments that I've read and heard, the false claims of "ohmygerd, it was rigged" seem inevitable. It's a shame when things like that happen because it distracts from the important business at hand.

(154,538 posts)the party is trying to deal with a nation that was founded by a group of elite, (with some slave-owning) racist and sexist men, with a set of principles that, at least on paper, are idyllic in the modern sense, but that were understood quite differently in the 18th century.
This in turn established a deeply-rooted system of white supremacy that is difficult to dislodge, and had to be challenged and chipped away through a number of Constitutional Amendments (one of which is being challenged as we speak, with a decision due by the very end of this year's SCOTUS session).
So while we try to chase "economics" as an "important issue" for the American public, a more primordial issue of "superiority" through "us vs them", has always been the bedrock, and at the moment, overlaid focus of that same public - and mainly due to the fact that this country is by no means "ethnically homogeneous" like most other countries have been (outside of their colonization and accepting others from those colonies as citizens).
