The wife of the suspect accused of killing a Minnesota politician and attempting to assassinate another was found with a trove of suspicious items in her car.
Vance Boelter's wife Jenny was stopped by authorities at a convenience store while driving a car with three other relatives inside near Onamia at 10am on Saturday.
She was found with a weapon, ammunition, cash and passports about 75 miles from where the shootings took place in Brooklyn Park and Champlin, Minnesota, eight hours earlier.
Vance Boelter, 57, remains on the run after he allegedly shot Democratic State Representative Melissa Hortman and Democratic State Senator John Hoffman in a chilling assassination spree, about eight miles apart, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

(14,111 posts)She's an accessory.....unsure of the others with her...not enough information.
She is caged in now. Fantastic catch officers.

(17,767 posts)She will shut up and stay that way. She probably knows talking to the cops will do zero to help her.
It will just make it easier to charge her.

(77,383 posts)respectfully disagree with you, in small part. Of course I 100% agree with you to ALWAYS get a lawyer. It's not just "guilty" people who benefit from having one before talking to police.
Being old, I well remember the even older "good cop.bad cop" tactics. They got confessions for centuries, from both guilty and innocent people. I can remember two detectives looking in the room I was in, with one saying, "We know how to make 'tough guys' talk." I found that absolutely hilarious, as I had been un-cuffed, and in that small room, could have destroyed both of them in under a minute ..... with time to spare!
But, being 100% innocent -- I had been charged, literally, with cattle rustling! -- I was content to wait until they closed the door to say, "Lawyer, please, kind sirs!" However, before they came in, their only witness admitted he was lying. Crazy story, one my children love.
However, these days, investigators use the Reid Technique. It works very well with those who do not immediately request a lawyer. If they get you to even talk about the weather or a local baseball team, there is a very high chance that they will get something close to a confession. If you are guilty, that happens faster in general than if you are innocent.

(9,653 posts)That's a good question. Why was he living with roommates?
I've had roommates most of my life because I want to live in a nice part of L.A. (Redondo Beach) so a majority of my money doesn't go to rent. I don't have family other than a sister who lives in Chicago. This murderer had five kids with his wife. It's very odd that he's living with roommates.

(17,767 posts)Unless they can pin her to the planning or having knowlege of the shooting, that will be tough. They will need texts or witness testimony and that probably doesnt exist.
Accessory after the fact would be easier, especially if she was fleeing with a plan to meet him.

(1,311 posts)These are clearly not very smart people. Chances are there will be enough evidence to show planning on the part of both of them. The fact that he even had those materials in her possession is strong evidence that she has been actively involved in the planning.
Note that the original plan was thwarted when police interrupted the second set of murders causing the Assassin to flee on foot. Clearly they had an escape planned. And it seems patently obvious that the people in the car were all in the process of escaping together.
If the wife was not a party to the plot, then she surely should have turned herself in yesterday. Anybody with any brains would know she would be high on the list of people to question.

(18,621 posts)Boelter had built a scattered career that included food companies, retailing and pastoring, according to public records and his online posts. He has been living with his wife in a rural area outside the Twin Cities, and staying a few nights a week at a rental home in a working-class Minneapolis neighborhood with a couple of roommates.
Boelter was working overnight shifts for an organization that handles eye donations, said one roommate, David Carlson, and was trying to get a security company off the ground.

(19,922 posts)This would be a perfect opportunity for a DU food fight, as I may be wrong, although the debate over whether tubas are brass or wind instruments (which I just read under the Tennesee youtube of lets agree to call them musicians overpowering a contingent of unironically named proud boys) was pretty good too.
