Trump vetoed Israeli plan to kill Iran's supreme leader, US official tells AP

Source: AP

Updated 3:09 PM EDT, June 15, 2025

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump rejected a plan presented by Israel to the U.S. to kill Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to a U.S. official familiar with the matter. The Israelis informed the Trump administration in recent days that they had developed a credible plan to kill Khamenei.

After being briefed on the plan, the White House made clear to Israeli officials that Trump was opposed to the Israelis making the move, according to the official who was not authorized to comment on the sensitive matter and spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The Trump administration is desperate to keep Israel’s military operation aimed at decapitating Iran’s nuclear program from exploding into an even more expansive conflict and saw the plan to kill Khamenei as a move that would enflame the conflict and potentially destabilize the region.

Asked about the plan during an interview on Fox News Channel’s “Special Report with Bret Baier,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not directly address whether the White House rejected the plan. “But I can tell you, I think that we do what we need to do, we’ll do what we need to do. And I think the United States knows what is good for the United States,” Netanyahu said.

Not very subtle about it either.

But I can tell you, I think that we do what we need to do, we’ll do what we need to do. And I think the United States knows what is good for the United States,” Netanyahu said.

But Trump will pretend he knew nothing about it and then be "dragged" into a war he and Netanyahu have been fantasizing about.

Thanks to his acts of revenge in Gaza for October 7th, there will be three generations of Palestinians that will seek revenge on Israeli citizens.. given a chance both sides will go back to events that happened a thousand years ago that started the cycle.

. . . I hope Israel does take him out. The Iranian people deserve a better future without the incredibly repressive regime of the Mullahs. Most of them want the level of freedom of expression that will never happen with an Islamist ruler who has women tortured and murdered for having a lock or hair showing, hangs homosexuals from cranes, and so many other horrors.

Or perhaps the hatred of Israel is so strong here that people would rather see that regime continue and the people of Iran suffer unimaginably as long as it means Israel fails?

Seems so.

Perhaps Netanyahu asked for US financial or weapons support for the exercise?

But Israel - those who supported you in the past are crying bitter tears and wonder what has happened to you.
First your ongoing 'cleansing' of Palestinians and now war with a near neighbour?

I'm hoping those who supply the endless flow of weapons of destruction that Israel is too willing to use, cry enough!

Israel has war hawks in full flight.
Their propaganda machine that says they are doing it for the best of reasons can't keep up.

Greater Israel ambitions. Remember Bibi fed our government lies about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Remember what General Wesley Clark said about invading 7 countries for regime change i.e. Greater Israel.
