Crisis pregnancy centers told to avoid ultrasounds for suspected ectopic pregnancies

Source: NBC News

June 23, 2025, 5:30 AM EDT

One of the largest crisis pregnancy center support groups in the United States is telling its member clinics to avoid performing prenatal ultrasounds on women who they suspect have ectopic pregnancies, according to recordings obtained by NBC News of a recent presentation by a legal group that advises the faith-based nonprofits. The guidance comes in the wake of a lawsuit against a Massachusetts center that misdiagnosed an ectopic pregnancy.

The National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA), a group that provides legal support and medical training for crisis pregnancy centers, advised members at a meeting earlier this year to proceed with caution when giving an ultrasound to a woman they suspect may have an ectopic pregnancy, calling the condition “the greatest medical and legal risk for clinics,” according to the recordings of the presentation that NBC News obtained via a conference attendee.

“I do not want to see on any website or advertising is, ‘Come to us and we’ll rule out an ectopic,” said a representative for NIFLA. “It is impossible to rule out an ectopic unless you’re doing HCG,” they added, referring to a blood test that measures hormone levels to confirm a pregnancy.

In the Massachusetts lawsuit filed in 2023, a crisis pregnancy center was accused of failing to diagnose an ectopic pregnancy and causing a life-threatening emergency for a client. The complaint alleged that Clearway Clinic engaged in deceptive advertising, aiming to persuade women to forgo abortions rather than “providing them with the range of medically appropriate options.”

Florida has nothing to worry about now! (Except, of course, THOSE people...BOO!)

And COVID-19! If we just stopped testing, the numbers would be much lower!

Ignorance, as a wise man once wrote, IS strength!!

3. If a "nurse" is doing ultrasounds, not a trained, credentialed & registered Ultrasonographer

Is that not malpractice of the "nurse" doing procedures out of her field of practice?
[from the article...The plaintiff, a Worcester resident who was kept anonymous in the suit, alleged that the nurse who performed her ultrasound scan at the center “did not undertake sufficient medical measures” to ensure the pregnancy was viable...] How did a Radiologist not read the study?

OB/Gynie Ultrasound is a specialist area.

The above quote is from the article.

12. FIrst, women are not important enough to be afforded reputable and true medical advice

(or any other kind of advice!). Second, the gist of this is that the problem was with an untrained, unlicensed individual (even tho a nurse) who stepped outside her specialty and intruded on another specialty practice. The woman is just the experiment here. Barely worthy of reporting, except that of course, she's the only one of 2 genders who could have an ectopic pregnancy. We are so much below 2nd class citizens at this point...

They don’t care about women - women are just incubators to them

This can kill women and an ectopic pregnancy will NEVER be viable. But it can endanger a woman’s health or life. It can make a woman sterile.

Sometimes a woman will survive without treatment.
The fetus almost always dies.

They are there to push their religious views on women. They are not medically certified to make any diagnosis, especially a life-threatening one like an ectopic pregnancy. Why does the media refuse to tell the truth that these are faith-based centers operated by religious groups whose purposes is not medical care but proselytizing for their religion and lying to women to prevent an abortion, even if not having an abortion causes a woman’s death. If these groups want to treat women, they need to be medically licensed or shut down.

These centers are not qualified to diagnose and do not have the personnel. They need to be shut down.

GOPer Blames 'The Left' After FL Abortion Ban Nearly Killed Her

In May 2024, Florida Republican Rep. Kat Cammack arrived at the emergency room and learned her life was in danger. She needed the same reproductive healthcare that she had worked with colleagues to deny other women through Florida's six-week abortion ban. And here's the kicker: She blames "The Left."
