Exclusive: US shoots down Iranian drone approaching aircraft carrier, official says
Source: reuters
Feb 3 (Reuters) - The U.S. military on Tuesday shot down an Iranian drone that "aggressively" approached the Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea, the U.S. military said, in an incident first reported by Reuters.
The incident came as diplomats sought to arrange nuclear talks between Iran and the United States, and U.S. President Donald Trump warned that with U.S. warships heading toward Iran, "bad things" would probably happen if a deal could not be reached.

(3,519 posts). . . we always are well-prepared to fight the last war . . . or the one before that.
Could it be that carriers and the multitude of accompanying vessels in the Carrier Task Force are obsolete?
Compare the cost of a new carrier, cruiser, destroyer, oiler, etc., to the cost of a few thousand drones
Check this out -- it is the status of the Navy's carriers -- currently in service; retired; and planned.

The USS Doris Miller (CVN81) keel was scheduled to be laid last month; launch 2029; commissioned 2032. Don't ask about the USS William Clinton (CVN82) and the USS George Bush (CNV83). Meanwhile, drones take a few hours to build.
