On March 3, Ecuadorian and U.S. military forces launched operations against Designated Terrorist Organizations in Ecuador. The operations are a powerful example of the commitment of partners in Latin America and the Caribbean to combat the scourge of narco-terrorism.
Together, we are taking decisive action to confront narco-terrorists who have long inflicted terror, violence, and corruption on citizens throughout the hemisphere.
We commend the men and women of the Ecuadorian armed forces for their unwavering commitment to this fight, demonstrating courage and resolve through continued actions against narco-terrorists in their country. - #SOUTHCOM Commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan.

US and Ecuadorean forces launched joint operations to combat drug trafficking, the US Southern Command said on Tuesday, but neither side gave more details.
Southern Command, which encompasses 31 countries through South and Central America and the Caribbean, said in a statement on X that the decisive action was aimed at combating illicit drug trafficking.
The Ecuador defense ministry said details of the offensive operations were classified.
The announcement of the military action was made after Ecuadors president, Daniel Noboa, said on Monday that his government would conduct joint operations with the US and other allies in March, framing the effort as a new phase against narco-terrorism and illegal mining.

(5,795 posts)The United States and Ecuador conducted joint military operations against "designated terrorist organizations in Ecuador," U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) announced on Tuesday.
This is the first time, officially, that the U.S. military has engaged in a land combat operation against South American drug cartels and gangs since the 1980s.
Recently, the U.S. military had only carried out airstrikes targeting smuggling boats in the Eastern Pacific and Caribbean killing a total of 152 alleged traffickers.
"In March, we will conduct joint operations with our regional allies, including the United States," President Noboa wrote on X.
On Monday, Noboa held talks in Quito with US Southern Command chief Francis Donovan and Mark Schafer, head of US Special Operations in Central and South America and the Caribbean.
During the meeting, they discussed plans for information sharing and operational coordination at airports and seaports, Noboa's office said in a statement.
