Trump officials to send Ebola-exposed Americans to Kenya rather than bring them home: NYT

Source: Raw Story

May 26, 2026 7:40PM ET

The Trump administration wants to send U.S. citizens living abroad who are exposed to the deadly Ebola virus to Kenya rather than bring them home, according to new reporting by the New York Times. Three people familiar with the Trump administration's plans spoke with the NYT, which noted that previous administrations brought Americans home for observation and treatment.

The outbreak of Ebola is in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The World Health Organization declared it a public health emergency. More than 1,000 cases of Ebola and 200 deaths have been reported during the past 11 days, which makes it the third largest outbreak on record, according to the NYT.

Trump administration insiders told the NYT that the original plan was to send Ebola-exposed Americans to Kenya for monitoring and then to Europe for treatment if they show symptoms.

"But the administration now plans to provide treatment in Kenya as well," insiders told the NYT. Trump officials are already setting up a facility in Kenya where Americans can be quarantined and treated for Ebola, the NYT added.

Compound the burden of the locals who are already operating on limited resources when they could be brought HOME to receive care that is most likely to support better health outcomes.

The stupidity of this isolationist crap is not only counterintuitive but deadly.

This regime is marked by immorality and incompetence, which is always a despicable combination.

Science doesn't care what they believe, and disease doesn't have time for their idiocy.

Danger hidden in the dark is still dangerous.

I believe that the plan is to send those Americans to Kenya, and dump them on the WHO...without any assistance from the US Government!

In other words...send them to Kenya so they can die!!!

Got to weed out the weak and "useless." Hell, let's just start euthanizing the undesirable Americans in our population. The ones that make us look bad. The unerwünschte Elemente as one could say.

After all, it isn't like that hasn't been done before ever, ever, ever.

Like Trumpcare, which is simply "don't get hurt or sick and if you do, die quickly."

Wow, does this idea sound like the deportation beginning of Americans Trump doesn't want here. Sort of a pilot program deporting and refusing admittance to the American citizen version of "low hanging fruit."

Slippery slope logical fallacy, I know. . .but let's look at his deportation record:

1: Undocumented immigrants in gangs, then;
2 Undocumented immigrants with felony records, then;
3: Undocumented immigrants with minor records (like DUI), then;
4: Undocumented immigrants with no records, then;
5: Documented immigrants in gangs, then;
6: Documented immigrants with felonies, then;
7: Documented immigrants with minor records (like misdemeanors), then;
8: Documented immigrants with no record, then;
9: Sick Americans, then. . .

And to show logical conclusion,
10: Americans in gangs, then;
11: Americans with criminal records, then;
12: Americans with no records deemed undesirable, then;
13: Americans that disagree with Republicans, then;
14: American Muslims, then;
15: American minorities, including Native Americans, then;
16: Americans not Christian, then;
17: Non wealthy Americans to a point (gotta keep certain things going), then. . .

Ebola has a death rate of about 50 percent, but early access to high-quality care and treatments can dramatically improve the odds of survival.

The United States has multiple facilities with state-of-the-art resources for monitoring and treating people with dangerous diseases, including Ebola. These include a unit in Omaha where 18 Americans are under observation for hantavirus following an outbreak on a Dutch cruise ship this month.

While the facility in Kenya may be better than those in Congo, it is unlikely to match the sophistication of those established in the United States for Ebola and other dangerous pathogens, according to Dr. Craig Spencer, a public health expert at Brown University.

“I find it hard to believe that they’re going to be able to stand up in the span of a couple days or even months a similar system that has been created over the past decade to do exactly this,” Dr. Spencer said.

Dr. Spencer is an emergency medicine physician who contracted Ebola in 2014 after treating patients in Guinea. He was in the intensive care unit at Bellevue Hospital in New York City for 19 days. Leaving Americans in Africa rather than bringing them home is “a dramatic abdication of what we owe our own,” Dr. Spencer said.

treatment of American health officials who contracted ebola during the Obama administration. Nine Americans, who got ebola in Africa were brought back for treatment
2 Americans were exposed and got ebola from contact with these patients.

Though those numbers are very small, they were used to stir up fear and the Obama administration was blamed. This while the US was key in stopping the outbreak in Africa and getting the American hero medical professionals excellent treatment without creating a US epidemic. After it was over, using what they learned, the Obama administration developed protocols and an office to deal with these types of events. Trump eliminated it early in his first term.
