U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to sue broadcaster ABC for its reporting on the cost of repairing damage sustained by the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington DC. ... The U.S. president said the network had not reported costs incurred by previous administrations in maintaining the landmark.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that ABC "failed to report that their close 'friends,' Dumocrats Obama and Biden, spent over 100 Million Dollars on the Reflecting Pool, and it never worked."
Trump did not give any evidence for the $100 million claim, but prior reporting by PBS indicated that former president Barack Obama's administration spent around $35 million on repairs for the monument. No major repairs to the pool are known to have been carried out during the Biden administration.
He also claimed that the damage to the monument has been caused by vandalism, but no evidence that the Reflecting Pool was intentionally damaged has been provided by the White House. ... Trump claimed to reporters on Monday that a "350-foot slit" was cut with a "box-cutter or a knife of some kind." NBC News reported that at least five people have been arrested in connection with the alleged vandalism. ... "We are preparing lawsuits against ABC for false reporting. I like their money, which will be given to the U.S. Treasury," Trump added, also referencing $16 million that ABC paid to settle a defamation case he filed in 2024.

Just to fact-check: Obama administration *did* oversee a overhaul of the pool. It cost $35M, not $100M, and the pool did reopen (uhm, obviously?). Trump also says Obama "took the water from it," one presumes to give away with all those phones.

(243 posts)and do seem to be taking a more forceful fight back posture, at least for now. Theyre running ads during The View, their highest rated daytime show, telling viewers that the federal government is trying to control what guests theyre allowed to have, and asking them to contact the FCC directly. The even include a QR code for ease and convenience.
Only problem with this approach is that the tRump Administration doesnt give a shit what the people want

I almost dont care because I have no respect for the ABC corporation. But the rule of law and honesty are too important.

(21,083 posts)If the administration is allowed to sue for "false reporting", Sean Hannity will be in the hot seat when the power in DC shifts to the blue side. Maybe we'll be able to sue the president for "misstatements". I'd like Trump's money.

(10,785 posts)Not mentioning something that happened in the paaast is NOT false reporting. What Obama and/or Biden did to the reflecting pool in the past has no bearing on what was being reported on now - the rapid reappearance of the algae and the pealing off of the liner/paint.
Never mind the lies about how much Obama and Biden spent. Nobody who wants to be taken seriously would ever talk about "false reporting" by referring to Democrats as "Dumocrats" like he's a whiny 10 year old. If he would follow through on a lawsuit, it would be immediately thrown out because of that statement alone which proves this is all about retribution and not actual reality.

2) I KNOW you are a sex-offender (Thanks to the Aussie fans for the chant/song in my mind "Aussie boys are on a bender / Donald Trump's a sex offender"
3) I KNOW you are lying about sabotage, about slashes to the pool liner, about your height, your weight, your health and your martial status (since you sex worker 3rd wife left you for the REAL pool boy years ago)...
Now, come at me.
Sue me, charge me (discovery will be FUN AS FUCK).
I will give truth to the lie that IN THIS CASE anyone who defends themself has a fool for a lawyer, because even with no degree, never passing the bar and no interest in it either, I could be better than the clown car of sycophants in your orbit. Fuck you 47. 86 47 indeed. I wake up every day and hopefully look to see if you died yet, but send your goons at me. I will turn this into the biggest reality show in court since OJ.
