Bari Weiss offers 'support' to laid-off CBS News staffers on 'enormously difficult day': 'My door is open'

With the long-expected Paramount layoffs hitting the CBS newsroom Wednesday morning, new editor-in-chief Bari Weiss told the reporters and journalists impacted by the brutal cuts that she was there to offer support to anyone who needed it.
This is just such an enormously difficult day for so many people who have given years of their lives to this company, she said during the morning editorial call, according to audio reviewed by The Independent.
And Im sorry, and I want to support everyone in whatever way I can, she added. My door is open, whether Im sitting up here or downstairs.
The networks cuts, meanwhile, have led to the cancellation of two digital shows and the gutting of CBS News Saturday morning offering. On top of that, The Independent has learned that the networks race and culture unit has also been shuttered.

Bari Weiss runs a Trump-friendly site now shell be in charge of CBS News
Paramount Skydance hired the anti-woke opinion journalist to run the venerable news organization giving Trump an ally with a big legacy media platform.
Oct. 6, 2025, 2:04 PM EDT
By Matt Johnson, writer and journalist
Paramount Skydance announced Monday that it has acquired The Free Press, a digital media outlet founded by Bari Weiss, who has also been named editor-in-chief of CBS News.
David Ellison the son of the billionaire, Trump-supporting Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison and the chairman and CEO of Paramount Skydance told CNBC in August that we dont intend to politicize CBS. But last month's hiring of a Trump-supporting, conservative think tank veteran as CBS News' new "bias monitor" along with the purchase of The Free Press for a reported $150 million in cash and stock, plus the elevation of Weiss is a clear signal he wants to steer one of American journalisms oldest and most respected institutions in a distinctly right-leaning ideological direction.
Ever since Weiss dramatically resigned from her job as an opinion editor and writer at The New York Times in 2020, she has waged war on the mainstream media, which she has called corrupt and blamed for causing a crisis of trust in American society. In her public resignation letter, she condemned places like The Times and other once-great journalistic institutions that betray their standards and lose sight of their principles.

A calculated move for propagandists.
