Pete Hegseth's Complaint About Dead Troops Even Shocked His Aides

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s remark Wednesday about U.S. troops dying in the Middle East was so callous it reportedly stunned everyone—including Pentagon officials.

During a press briefing, Hegseth claimed that the press was only reporting on the deaths of American soldiers in order to “make the president look bad.”

“But when a few drones get through or tragic things happen, it’s front-page news,” he said. “I get it, the press only wants to make the president look bad—but try for once to report the reality.”

The Atlantic’s Nancy Youssef, who was present for the briefing, told her colleague that Hegseth’s comment “sent a stunned silence through the briefing room.”

His aides were NOT "shocked." I don't buy that for a second, it is not possible unless it was their first damn day working with the guy.

What we have here is a group of people trying to launder their own reputations. They have chosen to work for this sack of shit, and have been gladly doing so for a long while. But they don't want to pay a price for doing so. Fucking cowards, manipulative opportunists. So when something especially awful hits the spotlight, they leak to reporters that "they were shocked" to try to keep the stink of that moment off of themselves.

To which I say: fuck that! All you aides own this. You know, have always known, exactly what this guy is, and have happily gotten in bed with him. You will never be cleansed of this, stop wasting our time with these lies.
