(72,502 posts)I'm not a big EJ fan, but there were some sings I thought were excellent. Rocket Man is one of them.

(72,502 posts)David Hentschell played the synth parts. David was a hired gun as a master of the ARP 2600 synthesizer.
That song leads into "Love Lies Bleeding" which I think is Elton's best rocker.

(9,499 posts)"Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding are my favorites. I'm a HUGE E.J. fan. I saw him in concert in the 80's, and it was great!

(672 posts)I went to wait in line for tickets and I was about 20th (pissed!). Mind you, in the "good ol days" I would lay out at night to be first or close to it. (And you may be aware of all that follows) So Ticketmaster didnt go in order of the line in order to STOP people from doing the overnight thing. You'd draw a number and that was your new position in line. The girl comes out with the bucket of tickets & tells everyone "The way these tickets are numbered, number 300 will actually be number 1" So I do my duty & draw....number 335. UGH. But the couple in front of me; the lady looked at her husband and said "SO this is 302 that means we're 2nd in line?" And I jumped in and said "I'll give you 40 bucks if you'll buy my tickets". The husband said "well I'm going to renew my DL after this so that will pay for my license AND lunch. OK"
I couldn't believe it. And boy was my mom surprised. Never had that luck again.

(1,136 posts)1. Funeral for a Friend / Love Lies Bleeding - from "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road"
2. Someone Saved My Life Tonight - from "Captain Fantastic..."
3. Sixty Years On - Live - from "11-17-70"
These all appeal to my Prog Rock side.

(18,580 posts)is my current fave EJ song.
It seems currently topical. Besides being a phenomenal performance.

(34,612 posts)but being a Kansas girl I have to say Yellow Brick Road (I was in High School gimme a break) and that would be my true answer but every other choice is so very close. When I heard the way they did Rocket Man in concert I almost lost it, so so different and so so good. Still, of these choices I am still with Yellow Brick Road.
All 3 are tremendous tunes, but something about Yellow Brick Road hits me right in the nostalgia, more so than the other two.
