If she laid one a day for 13 days, she could come home with this many chicks, but there is a big difference in size between a day-old chick and a 13-day-old chick. And 2-week old chicks have quite a few feathers already.

So yeah, this doesn't make sense.

I think it was twice. I learnt a whole lot. Including that hens lay an egg a day.

lay oneish egg a day. They don't start sitting on them until they are all laid. THEN she broods them and each egg develops at the same time.

That never occurred to me. Just now I Googled it and see this: "In nature, hens lay eggs in a nest until they have a "clutch" of eggs, usually around 8-12, before settling down to incubate them."
