(31,113 posts)If she laid one a day for 13 days, she could come home with this many chicks, but there is a big difference in size between a day-old chick and a 13-day-old chick. And 2-week old chicks have quite a few feathers already.
So yeah, this doesn't make sense.

(125,890 posts)I think it was twice. I learnt a whole lot. Including that hens lay an egg a day.
lay oneish egg a day. They don't start sitting on them until they are all laid. THEN she broods them and each egg develops at the same time.

(31,113 posts)That never occurred to me. Just now I Googled it and see this: "In nature, hens lay eggs in a nest until they have a "clutch" of eggs, usually around 8-12, before settling down to incubate them."
