My oldest son is visiting us for the weekend to pick up his cat. The conversation he's having with my wife revolves...

politically. It would make me proud, it means you did a good job raising them and they will have a voice in the direction of our country going forward.

He's nearing completion of his Ph.D. in nuclear engineering. He can probably work in any civilized country in the world, and be welcomed there. (He's mentioned France; he speaks French and is tutoring his girlfriend, also a nuclear engineering student, in that language.)

My oldest son is an artist/gallery administrator. His only option for getting out of here would involve going to graduate school overseas.

My wife and I are stuck here. No one would accept us.

find work overseas. Like NNadir's son, mine is also completing his PhD. Alas, he is extremely poor at learning languages, but because English is the language of science everywhere, he can pretty much work anywhere.
