We are home... here are the driving test results

Yesterday I spent the day studying. I took the AARP Smart Driver Online Course. $27 well spent. I also had a lot of time on the Nebraska online practice test: https://www.nebraska.gov/dmv/practice/ I spent some more time on it this morning.

Marta dropped me off. Our son lives near the rehab, so they went shopping. I paid for the written test first. I did well for my age and diagnosis. Then I paid for the driving test. It was several miles of all kinds of situations. I made a few small mistakes. I was so nervous.
We finished the test. He handed me my report card. I passed, NO RESTRICTIONS!

I texted Marta to come get me. We took Steve to a celebratory late lunch. Not a cloud in the sky. The weather report did call for rain. By the time we were ready to leave, it was pouring rain. We got Steve home. Ten minutes after that, both our phones went into alarm mode. TORNADO WARNING! Then the hail hit. Twenty minutes of driving in light hail. We will check the car tomorrow for damage. The dogs hate thunder. They were glad we got home to calm them down.

It's been a day.

Thank you all for the support I received this week about my driving.

OS

The National Weather Service in Valley issued a brief tornado warning Thursday afternoon for much of Omaha and Council Bluffs as a severe storm moved across the area.

I had never heard of the AARP Smart driver course (online or in person). Looks like people who take it often get a discount on car insurance. Plus, there are times during the year when the course itself is discounted.

https://www.aarp.org/auto/driver-safety/

So glad it was a good day for you, OS --- and that the storm waited until you were done.

This thread reminds me of the random drug testing that I was subjected to when I had a CDL. Our Supervisor would walk out to the crew room and call out the names of the drivers that were going to be loaded in a passenger van and driven directly to the testing facility.
I was randomly picked 4 times in the first month of implementation of the program.
I joked that they should test middle and upper management but, that didn't go well. The rest of our crew got a good laugh out of that though.
At a $100 a test, I figured that they wasted close to $3,500 on me during the 30+ years that I was employed there.
The middle and upper management 'car' drivers wreaked more vehicles than us, the truck drivers and heavy equipment operators.

The biggest problem you now face is will your wife or others tell you you should put down the keys.
My wife and I have a pact to let each other know when we think the other is a danger on the road.

This leads to problems in most of the US where where options for nondrivers are a lot lower than in Europe.
My license is good until I'm 88, 74 now. Not sure I'll be driving that long. But I live in a place where I currently don't need a car and haven't owned one for almost 10 years. I imagine that an electric trike will be in my future for shopping and around town.

You should keep up with how to track that your facilities for driving are holding up. How long is this approval for? Just so you stay ahead of any issues awhile from now. But congratulations on still being good. Pennsylvania does a thing where 1-2% of drivers have to do a full retest every year. This is to provide cover if a friend or family nominates someone confidentially for driver evaluations.

Gotta love Nebraska weather. I was in Lincoln wishing the storms would miss us because my boy Booger (border collie) is terrified of storms. I'm sorry that every time it misses us, it hits you in Omaha. But yay for you passing your test!

I was taking my teen for his license after passing the driving portion in a private school. The family in front of us was the same, except the boy didn't pass the on-the-spot vision test (she literally held up a big card from where she sat & he couldn't read the line she indicated - while I could read it myself and I was behind him). The clerk was professional and nice, said everything was processed and gave him a form instructing about needing the vision test - with a deadline a few months out. As long as he gets the vision test done and comes back with the optometrist signature, the license is ready to be mailed to him. It only took her a minute or two to run that test on all the applicants coming in, but it made me feel a lot better about being on the road!
