The creamer and richer the better. So my go-to brands are Kroger Private Selection, Tillamook, and Guernsay Farms (Michigan brand).

(9,832 posts)Til the company was sold to Unilever and they moved out of town. Product has been downhill ever since. Plus I think they were the first major ice cream brand to shrink the box.

(65,029 posts)... we got Breyer's in Akron. It was worth the extra half buck a gallon.
I love ice cream, virtually any flavor. I have fond memories of my grandmother making ice cream in her old hand operated ice cream maker at home. Peach was her favorite and mine!
Bad thing is.....it makes me sick. Something to do with the milk. I can't drink lactose free milk either so it's something else.

(9,703 posts)Especially like that it has no chemicals. Many Hagen Dazs flavors list less than 5 ingredients.
Have no idea why someone would buy ice cream with 30 ingredients.

(203 posts)Tillamook makes several good flavors, really creamy. Hudsonville is a favorite of mine, their Traverse City Cherry Fudge and Deer Traxx are both great. And Ben and Jerry's makes some really good ones too, their Core ice creams are really good.

Sold at the Reading Terminal Market.
Might be the oldest Ice Cream brand in the USA. Since 1861.
You can find it in some Philly area stores too. High butter fat content. The Rum Raisin & Vanilla are amazing.
Bryers used to be great but hasn't been for years.
And let's give a shout out to New Jersey's Richman's Ice Cream. That's good too.
Local PA brand Turkey Hill is less expensive & pretty good too. I like almost any Ice Cream though I did try Vegen Ice Cream & wasn't too thrilled.
Without Dairy it ain't Ice Cream!

(9,832 posts)Normally Im one for the most chocolate possible, but I live Turkey Hill orange-vanilla swirl. Vanilla ice cream with swirls of orange sherbet.
Greens is another local PA brand thats great, especially the chocolate.

(33,776 posts)Never met a flavor I didn't like. I'll forever be pissed off that the local stores refused to carry Schweddy Balls, because it sounded delicious. No Scoop Shops nearby, but I'm okay with the pints. With you on the caramel, but I wish they'd have more flavors containing coconut.

Some job, eh? Getting to taste-test ice cream? Almost as good as Andy Capp's job testing mattresses.

But, I'm not at all fussy as to brand. I buy whatever is cheapest that day.
I've had great homemade ice creams & gelato all over Italy. So, I know what very good is like, but I'm not very particular.

(446 posts)I didn't buy the right kind of machine; turns out you really need one that scrapes the sides. Also, as it happens it's quite expensive to make your own ice cream. Still, it tasted good.
Ever heard of a band called Cibo Matto? They were a pair of Japanese-American women from New York with a band with an Italian name meaning "Crazy Food". Pretty good band, actually. They had a song called "White Pepper Ice Cream," and for 20 years now I've been wondering how that tastes.

(57,854 posts)Made and sold by Sweet and Savory, summer months only, in Truro, Massachusetts.
They make their own flavors, including Cranberry Bog and a coffee-chocolate mix called Mississippi Mud Flats. But Key Lime Cheesecake is always sold out soon after a new batch is delivered. The word has definitely spread.

(57,854 posts)We liked it so much, we went back the next year, too. We liked it again, and so decided for another time the year after that. And so it went. Our girls grew up looking forward to it every year. This year will be our 42nd year in a row! People we met that first year have moved away, passed away, or just stayed there, and gotten old with us. The first year, I heard the local community radio station play 5 Leo Kottke tunes in a row!! I called them up during their fund-raising drive and pledged them some money and made sure they knew it was for the Leo Kottke marathon. They invited me to come on, and so for 40 years, I have been doing a brief community radio stint on WOMR-FM, outer community radio. The place DOES grow on you if you let itor even if you try not to let it!

(22,890 posts)unfortunately I can't get Huckleberry Swirl or Marionberry Pie out here on the East Coast anymore.
So, for now, it's Tillamook Mudslide, Apple Crisp, or Peaches and Cream.
On the local scene, I've got Longfords and Bona Bona. Bona Bona has "boozy milkshakes" as well

(2,415 posts)For years -- decades, really -- I've been hearing about how good Ben & Jerry's ice cream is. So, every time I hear that, I decide, well, if it's that good, I'll try some the next time I go to the grocery store. And then, when I get to the grocery store, I look and look and look for Ben & Jerry's CHOCOLATE ice cream! Ben & Jerry's has all these crazy flavors, but why can't I find Ben & Jerry's CHOCOLATE ice cream? So I always end up buying Haagen Dasz Chocolate ice cream instead. Because Haagen Dasz actually has it in CHOCOLATE! And Haagen Dasz is good ice cream, too.
To this day, I've still never tried Ben & Jerry's ice cream. When the day comes when I'm in the grocery store and I see Ben & Jerry's ice cream in plain ol' CHOCOLATE, I will buy it and take it home, and try Ben & Jerry's ice cream for the first time in my life.
