Dropped my kid off at 6:00 this morning, I already miss them
We had a great visit! It's so cool to hang out with your adult children. Especially when they are feeling good about themselves and their own lives, and I get to see the wonderful growth that has happened for them.
I mean I love the fact that they can talk to me about their boyfriend and relationship on such deep levels. And share their goals and their dreams. And then even hammer out details with me about when they come to live with me and how we're going to do rent and utilities and manage the money as a household. The adulting is strong with this one!
They're really excited to come back out here and live. And our community college has expanded now to offer satellite bachelor's degrees, so they don't even have to go anywhere or move to get their teaching credential.
Bonus - since their job is in housekeeping, I got a free 2-hour house cleaning! My bathroom and kitchen look amazing. And my stove is cleaner than it's been in months! LOL
Details:
Number one. Court date got canceled and moved. 🙄 Stupid x showed up at the courthouse expecting to zoom because they are in a different location. But the judge wants them present, and so they're demanding accommodations of transportation. Things got continued until May and that's only the pre prelim so the trial won't go through again until June. But that's fine because by that time my kid and the boyfriend will be out here living and we can all go together.
Number two. I know it's confusing cuz I was talking about my daughter earlier. She / they / he are non-binary. And since they prefer masculine, it's easier for me to use they/them pronouns, cuz I'm still having issues seeing them as fully masculine. And it doesn't change our relationship, I'm just learning how to use the right language and honor my child's wishes.
They got their hair cut while they were here which was fun. We ended up driving down early last night and spending the night near the airport so we didn't have to drive at 3:00 in the morning. And she was able to steal my car, and go visit her friend who's going to college nearby. So that was fun for them! It's so sweet cuz their best friend is also becoming a teacher, and they both want to move back to Tahoe and teach together in their old high school and Junior high which is so fucking cute.
On a final note. I got some ego stroking as well,. It's really cool when you're adult child gives you props and can see the changes in the growth that you have made since they were living with you. They said they could really tell how much I'm thriving physically and that my skin and face look so much better without drinking. And they're also really happy that I've done the trauma work and can approach our relationship from such a healthy place now. I'm really looking forward to this next chapter with this kid!
Such an interesting cycle of life, isn't it?
