(242 posts)I try to set it at 75-76, but my wife always turns it down to 74, which is actually cold for me. My thermostat includes a humidistat that governs the temperature/cooling when the humidity is above a set point. I can get around the wifey issue because the stat is connected to the internet and I can change the settings remotely, which wifey is not aware that I can do that. Drives her crazy when she finds out the settings change even when I am not home. lol...........

(30,811 posts)I woke up early early this morning and was really hot, so I turned it down to 74, but keep it in the high 70s.
I'm sorry about your loss. My sister is going through the same thing as you. Her husband did all things like that, and she is having to learn how to do it all. I often moan bout having to do all these things in my life, but I guess it is good prep for me when it comes to the day my beloved is no longer with me.

(3,050 posts)But I grew up in Texas. We didnt have air-conditioning until I was about 16. I lived in Dallas for thirty years, and in Dallas if it is 105° at noon it is still 90° at midnight. In this part of Florida the hottest months of June to October have almost daily rains about 2-4 PM. Most days it may hit the mid 90's for a couple of hours but the rains drop the temperature to the 70's. I don't use the air-conditioning, just fans. I find it very comfortable, even a bit cool around 5-8 AM.

(15,281 posts)It's only going to get up to 75 today!
Many places here in Tahoe don't even have AC, because it gets so cold at night in the Summers it balances things out pretty well. That we're supposed to have a hot day or two coming up Friday Saturday I think but hot for us is 85 with low humidity! The sun is very strong here though because the atmosphere is so thin, so you got to watch it cuz it gets hot in the Sun for sure!
Edit to add.. im sorry for the loss of your hubby. Hope you can start feeling more independent with all those details... 🥺🫂

(16,856 posts)81 degrees all day, all night. Wife gets colder if we set it any lower and I get hot if we go higher. She's in remission so I bow to her.
Ceiling fans work all day/all night too.

(364 posts)A/C left at 82 all day. Comes on about noon.
Just had contract annual tune up. Filters changed. Large outside fan bearing failing. Hope holds until fall.
Furnace set at 68 in cool season.

(511 posts)I have no need for an air conditioner. Temperature in the summer usually in the mid- to high 70s with about two or three weeks in August when it gets in the low 80s. All I need are fans to cool my home.
