Got my working papers at age 14...

But even before that, some guy hired me to work demolition on a local five and dime. He paid me under the table. $1.85 an hour.

I ran a jackhammer and knocked down walls that summer.

I had a girlfriend at that age, and she would bring me lunch. I thought I was hot shit.

That was around the time I got hooked on the Grateful Dead.

There were not any live tapes around (at least in my circle of people) at that time, so I played their albums to death.

I used to sing while working, and this live version of this song is bringing back some joyful memories of that time. This song wasn't on the Workingman's Dead album as shown in the picture. But I found this version the other day and it's making me reminisce back to the early 70's.

I loved Jerry Garcia's sweet voice when he was younger.

That's the thing about music...it conjures up memories. I found this version the other day, and I've been playing it it often. It takes a bit for the music to start.

I was 'hired' at age twelve. (Because that was the age where you could get a Social Security card.)

Nothing good came from attending the worst rock festival in history. Looks like one helluva lineup, doesn’t it? I’ll spare the logistical nightmares, but the only acts who played were the Amboy Dukes, Ravi Shankar, Black Oak Arkansas, and Chechen & Chong, who arrived in torrential rain and riffed on the whole Mickey-mouse clusterdoodle they were witnessing. I’m writing a book about it, swear to dog.

Or officially, The Erie Canal Soda Pop Festival.

This gives further credence to the claim of worst rock festival ever.
