But, but, I AM the Pope...

https://www.nytimes.com/2026/05/05/us/pope-leo-xiv-bank-customer-service.html?unlocked_article_code=1.gVA.PBn7.zXiZGplhZZcb&smid=url-share

What Happened When the Pope Had to Call Customer Service - Spoiler alert: There was no miracle.

Just after becoming the new pope, the pope had to change the phone number on his bank account to his new phone in Rome. He called the bank. He called customer service using his real name, Robert Prevost, rather than his pope name. He answered all of the security questions correctly. The customer service rep told him that he would have to come in personally to make the change.

“Well, I’m not going to be able to do that. I gave you all the security questions... Would it help if I told you I'm Pope Leo?"

She hung up.

... why that CSR didn't just call the number the Pope gave her. I would think that a customer service representative in the Vatican could have vouched for Pope Bob.
An earlier OP on this subject said that the issue was resolved, I imagine without having to dust off any of the mechanical instruments of persuasion in the Vatican's basement.
