The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsThirty-six years later, it still scares the crap out of me; I can't believe my wife made me watch it.
Thirty-six years ago, when I was the relatively "new guy" in the lab, my colleagues suggested we all go to the movies with our spouses.
I spoke to my wife about the planned foray, and she asked, "What's the movie about?"
I told her, "I don't know. It sounds like something about farming."
She said, "What's it called?"
I said, "Silence of the Lambs."
My wife got it out of the library this week. She put it on.
OK, I know how it ends, but...
Damn. I had to take breaks. I couldn't sit through it straight.
When we saw it when it was in theaters all those years ago, my wife had problems sleeping for a couple of weeks.
Jodie Foster was very young when the movie came out. She's a year older than my wife.
Still creepy, that movie. I don't do horror movies well. I mean it wasn't a horror horror movie, but too close for my tastes.

(11,987 posts)psychological movies are much scarier than monster movies. Because there really are sick twisted murderers among us.

We laugh about it now.
For the record we lived in West LA as newlyweds when Richard Ramirez, the "Night Stalker" serial killer was on the prowl locally, so serial killer stuff was just a little too real, even though we'd moved to San Diego at the time.

The weirder the movie/television series/miniseries the more I like it!

(27,562 posts)I almost never watch full on horror movies!
I actually did go to see "I Am Legend".
Gah!! Why? What was Inthinking?! 😜
Maybe bc it took place in NYC? I'm a NYCr.
Occasionally I might see a SF movie, or TV series where there's some horror elements but not full on.

(17,167 posts)I listen to creepy/horror youtube stories, but they're pretty tame. They make chores go by quicker. But movies...I'm the same as you, need breaks in between. Listening is much different than watching it.
