Today is International Rock Day. As a child, did you collect rocks? I had one of those boxes with labeled rocks inside.

When we went to vacations, I collected rocks from various locations.

I had a very sharp piece of slag glass that came from Mammoth Cave.

I don't have it anymore but it looked like this. I should probably get a another piece.

I just received a bunch of black obsidian rocks that were free! I have some of them displayed out on special dishes, after I full moon charged them of course.

I was impressed when I tagged along with my father to visit one of his acquaintances, while we were on the way to do something or other. This acquaintance was an advanced hobbyist. He had quite a rock collection, and a specialized microscope to examine them - very neat, and especially for a child seeing these sorts of crystal details through a microscope for the first time.

My mom, and I were partly into it.
We sometimes went to gem & mineral shows togther. From a shop I'd get smallish geodes, abd we'd crack fhem open to see the quartz hollow insides.

We went to Franklin, NJ to collect florescent rocks, and my dad got me a black light for them.
The. best was when we went to Herkimer, NY for herkimer "diamonds".
We only found small, very small ones - but they are double-pointed quartz. Points on both ends; very pretty!

I'd occasionally buy some pretty minerals until my early 40s?
