This is Pixie, my third cat. It's from a photo of her lurking behind a ficus tree.

(124,640 posts)I will probably go back to this one after a bit and fix a few things, like I usually do with "finished" paintings.

(36,871 posts)I like the way shes hiding behind the leaves of the tree. The leaves frame her face nicely and add much visual interest to the composition as a whole. Very nicely done!

(25,256 posts)And Pixie's expression is sooo feline. The eyes have a haughty, impish look.

(24,355 posts)With the background too much, so her face looks a bit unbalanced. Perhaps a carefully positioned leaf? Pixie was a beauty and I can't believe how you captured her texture... Fantastic!

(124,640 posts)after you've been looking at it for awhile you can't see it any more, which is why at some point, when it's mostly finished, I set it aside for a little while and then come back when I can see what needs to be improved. I agree with your comment, though the detail is better in the original (it's hard to find a good exposure to photograph a wet oil painting because if there's too much light the paint is shiny and if there isn't enough the detail is lost). I will be revisiting that detail and some others in a few days.
Pixie is a beauty. She's part Siamese (I think) and quite fluffy. Right now she's watching a squirrel on the porch but she seems kind of bored.

(53,410 posts)You did a great job! On the cat and on the surroundings. It has a perfect curiosity as well as the way cats will hide a bit to separate themselves yet be able to study that which theyre curious about. I like the warm colors and the green plant and those blue eyes. You did a great job on the fur and the shape of the cat and the alert expression. Thanks for sharing this! Its a good cat portrait. One of the best Ive seen.
