(835 posts)I was born in 1954. Drag racing fan. Shirley was racing at a small track Dover Dragstrip, in Wingdale, NY. Its farm fields now. In the summer of 1971, my buddies and I did one of our many drives to Dover. We were 17 and NY driving age was 18. We bought pit passes for $10, and I saw her between races. Sweaty and very attractive in her fire suit. She was very good and famous in drag racing, because she was a great driver. Ill never forget her. My wife of 34 years is tough and strong, just like MS Muldowney.

(72,482 posts)Not from the 60s, though. Other than the Beatles, I was still focused on playing jazz piano.
But, when I really started to pay more attention to rock, there jangly soubd and nice harmonies caught my ear.
I actually do a solo acoustic version of Mr. Tambourine Man when I do open mic nights.
Since it's a Byrds tune, I use a 12 string.
I think it might be illegal to play one of their songs on 6 string.

(2,068 posts)Back in late '65/early '66 there was a pop music show locally in SoCal called Shivaree. My girlfriend won tickets to the show on KFWB, an LA radio station, so we got to go to the filming. The Byrds were the main group that day and we were so excited to see a big name band. Some of us audience members stood on scaffolding around the stage, kind of behind the bands. It was classic afternoon music tv fare for teens, complete with go-go dancers! Wow I definitely haven't thought about that event in decades...thanks for the flash-back!!

Note: Just kidding on the comment regarding CSNY. They were an amazing group; one of my all time favorites. Great melodies and harmonies.

(2,209 posts)There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
2 a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
3 a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
6 a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
