Related: About this forumBruce Cockburn (Live): If I had a Rocket Launcher (apropos right now especially)
I am thinking of all those countless lost Iranian girls killed by either our or Israeli missiles in their school (and all the Gazan children killed before). (No, I am quite obviously no fan of the Islamic Republic's Ayatollahs, but having spent time in Tehran and Iran before the overturn of the Shah, I see things differently from the average American who knows nothing more than decades of US semi-propagandized assessments). This song came to mind early this morning and this is a great rendering. A great Canadian artist with message...although Cockburn, himself stated this was not a "call to arms" but a cry. (12,895 posts)1. If I had a rocket launcher
Last 2 stanzas
.
I want to raise every voice
At least I've got to try
Every time I think about it
Water rises to my eyes
Situation desperate
Echoes of the victims cry
If I had a rocket launcher
If I had a rocket launcher
If I had a rocket launcher
Some son of a bitch would die
🙏👍🤞

(113,591 posts)2. Thank you for including those lyrics.
I adore Gordon Lightfoot but far too few Americans seem to know Cockburn--a favorite of mine for years. Both talented and both emotionally resonant.

Lots of Canadian influence in the family
proximity helps also
.plus a love of folk music.
I sing those 2 stanzas quite a bit lately. Might use them as a sign this No Kings protest.
