No ★Stars★, but Much ☼Light☼ in Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day


Lightning over the Volcano of Water

...around the world, about 6,000 lightning bolts occur between clouds and the Earth every minute. Pictured in July 2019 in a two-image composite, lightning stems from communication antennas near the top of Volcán de Agua (Volcano of Water) in Guatemala.

The APOD is one of those 6,000 strikes PER MINUTE!

If you want lightening pix, probably the most active place in the world is Lake Maracaibo in Venezuela. Much of the US is also quite active.
