Sunday 'Round the farm (We skipped last week's post, being away visiting my family.)

Our daughter "farm-sat" with her Boxer Pepper. She sent us this photo, including Shadow, wondering where she was going to sleep that night. They worked it out.

Before we left this is as far as the new barn had gotten, due to multiple delays.

Here is the progress to date.

Shadow, inspecting the latest work.

Shadow was so glad to see us upon returning, she aimed her backside for overdue scritches.

Laurie's Paint gelding Pete is home now, getting reacquainted with his half-sister Maddie.

Pete had once given our good friend an unforgettable ride around the arena, Laurie leading.

Then, this past summer, Pete boarded with our good friends and taught their 7-year-old boy how to ride, with Laurie's assistance.

Back to the present, the neighbor girls like to visit the horses.

KC, reporting in, curled up in our closet.

When we moved here there were a lot of downed logs on the property. Yesterday Laurie made arrangements to give some of them away. With the help of her tractor Big Blue.

Laurie later said that the recipient tried to tell her how to do her job. She tolerated him.

Thanks for stopping by!

I’ll bet that boy was in 7th Heaven having a horse to learn to ride on all to himself!
I see Shadow has become Building Inspector too. So many jobs for a farm dog to do …..
Boo on anyone who thinks they need to tell Laurie how to do ANYTHING.
KC says I’m staying out of all this mess …. for now.

enjoy learning to ride Pete. By summer's end they were able to go short distances. Pete earned his rest here. Shadow has so many duties, but she gets 'em done. KC plays it smart . . . for now.
Thanks D_D!!

My grandfather was a carpenter, and I remember driving a nail or two into my uncle's "new home" when that was being built. There was an empty field next to our three-family "compound" which was developed as we watched. We had played pirates there.

Second childhood for you?

It's hard to tell if she's planning anything or if she isn't. You didn't come home to find anything missing? Shoes? Keys?

(not easily understood; mysterious; unfathomable. an inscrutable smile. from dictionary.com)

the longest we'd been separated from Shadow. I'm guessing she was still wondering, worrying if and when mommy and daddy were coming home. That look seems to show un-ease. Inscrutable is a good word for her. Thank You!

Shadow's hard to read sometimes —

Other times her expression shows what she's feeling —

I wondered who was watching Shadow, KC and Maddie while you were gone. Now I know!

I love all the pictures, but my favorites (not in any particular order) are: Maddie and Pete getting reacquainted; Laurie and your friend laughing as your friend rides Pete and Laurie leads (they look like they're having the best time!); the little boy riding Pete; and KC in the closet.

Thanks for making me smile on a late Sunday night/early Monday morning!
