How new Arizona election law could speed up results in 2026

PHOENIX — Arizona's primary election is the first test for a new way to drop off early ballots that could speed up election results.

An election law enacted in 2024, with bipartisan support, took on the challenge of responding to what are perceived to be long waits for results in Arizona.

One of the challenges has been the large number of early ballots dropped off on Election Day.

Under state law, the signature on a ballot envelope must be verified. That can take days when there are tens of thousands of these so-called "late earlies."
