STATUES
Oh Good, a Huge Trump Statue Went Up in D.C.

Things lately have felt pretty weird, politically speaking, huh? Here’s something that will certainly not help: There’s a giant golden Donald Trump statue in front of our nation’s Capitol. But don’t worry, it wasn’t put there by a power-hungry president whose regime is looking increasingly authoritarian — apparently it was just a bunch of crypto guys. Yay?

The 12-foot statue, which depicts Trump holding up a Bitcoin, showed up outside the Capitol on Wednesday, shortly before the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision. Per ABC7, the so-called “artistic installation” was paid for by a group of cryptocurrency investors in an effort “to ignite conversation about the future of government-issued currency,” according to Hichem Zaghdoudi, a representative for the group. Zaghdoudi described the statue as a “symbol of the intersection between modern politics and financial innovation,” before adding, “As the Federal Reserve shapes economic policy, we hope this statue prompts reflection on cryptocurrency’s growing influence.”

Look, it’s not every day I’m grateful a bunch of crypto guys are getting into the public arts, but at least this is not the work of the actual Trump administration. Still, I don’t think a giant tacky statue of the president is going to make things any less tense in Washington. I never thought I would say this, but maybe whoever is planning crypto stunts should stick to dildos?

I like when we're not sure if it's in support or protest.

The linked article says crypto bros put it up.
