Trump is the biggest threat to D.C.'s architectural splendor since War of 1812

Trump is the biggest threat to D.C.’s architectural splendor since War of 1812

The president’s garish and piecemeal changes to the capital city’s urban design are poised to destroy symbolism upheld for centuries.

Today at 5:00 a.m. EDT

A passenger jet approaches [Washington] National Airport, passing over the area where President Donald Trump would like to build a 250-foot-tall “Independence Arch.” (Al Drago/For The Washington Post)

Column by Philip Kennicott

A loosely circular driveway sweeps through the White House grounds, just below the beloved South Portico of the mansion. Its shape echoes a larger park, known as the Ellipse, which connects the president’s home to the National Mall. It also mirrors the curving pathways of nearby Lafayette Square, on the north side of the complex.

At least all the British did was burn a few buildings. They didn't build architecture monstrosities to replace them. Martin68 Mar 23 #4

to remove all of the architectural blight the Orange Colostomy Bag has loosed on the Capitol. Raze the ballroom and restore the East Wing, clean up -- and fumigate -- the White House, trashing the fools' gold in the Oval, and give us back the Rose Garden. Scratch his name from the Kennedy Center -- and fumigate the building.

Major legislative issues aside for the moment, it is imperative that the next Government remove the physical stains and scars that Trump will leave on the grounds of our Washington D.C. and other Federal installations.

He knows a Dem president will freeze construction and work to tear down completed structures.
Unfortunately I can't read the article since I scrapped my subscription to the WaPO.

If something gets built then a Democratic president will probably go through the correct steps to tear it down and not just rent a bulldozer.
